After nearly five days of being in the hospital with tons of monitoring, Stevie's blood pressure would finally be at a stable pace that her doctor felt comfortable letting her go home.
Even though it seemed her son had just died, the military protocol was to have the funeral within five to seven days after his passing. Even though arrangements were to be made, things had to be done; it was done while she was in the hospital by herself and Robert to make any changes. With the help of Karen; Robert, Shannon and Nicholas helped with arrangements for a reception to throw at their house considering they wanted to get it all over with, but that would be a bit later considering Stevie's health was still pending and they didn't want so much stress on her within a short period of time. Not after the situation she was dealing with.
Planning a funeral was not something they had in mind, but what they did consider was that their son was a very simple, very family oriented man and they knew after the very formal and proper funeral, they'd have a more lighthearted get together with his family to ensure everybody could pay their respects; like his aunts in New York.
Walking through the door with an overnight bag, Barbara smiled softly at her daughter who was sitting in bed with her knees propped up to her chest, hugging them in place as she was most likely daydreaming since it really was the only way to see; to envision her fantasies and thoughts.
"Mom?" Stevie said softly, head turning to acknowledge the sound.
She giggled, "Yes..."
Smiling softly, she tilted her head.
"Lindsey was going to come with the baby and your change of clothes, I told him I would come instead..." she mentioned, placing the bag at the foot of the bed. "Hope that's alright..." she lingered.
"Of course," she nodded.
Listening to the sound of her mother unzipping the bag, she took in the detail of each thing; the sound of her nails just slightly grazing the material of denier polyester, her wedding ring slightly hitting the hardware clasp of the strap as she opened it wider to actually pull out the clothing. She then could hear that there was some sort of zip up sweater by the way it sounded as her mother settled it down on the bed, close enough to her that she felt a tiny thud from the fabric hitting the mattress close to her feet.
"Where is everybody?"
"Shannon and Damon went to check on Kristen, Robert and Nicholas went out this morning, but should be back soon since they know you're coming home. Daddy is at Chris' with Jessica and Lori..." she paused and cleared her throat.
"How's Lindsey?"
"He's very tired, but he's home and the house is perfectly tidy..."
"I can't wait to go home," she shook her head. "I'm getting so anxious here... I want my bed, my food, my kids, my Lindsey..."
She smirked, "He's dying to see you which is why he wanted to come but Lily was pretty fussy..."
"I'm dying to see him," she admitted, the words hitting her very quickly. "At least, he'll get to see me..."
Barbara tisked when she realized what she had said. "I think it would put him at ease once you and Lily are under the same roof where he doesn't have to run wild."
"He's been doing a lot and I feel so bad..." she shook her head. "You guys too... I really don't know how all of this is gonna work out."
"You just have to have faith that it will, TeeDee... This is a hard time. Every couple goes though it---just like when Robert was in a wheelchair, you were there for him... Lindsey's here for you. Even if it is a little tough considering the baby, considering the circumstances behind all of this..."
