It wasn't till later that evening that Stevie would call Jeffrey to not only come and pick Robert and herself up, but it would take a strong, young man like their son to handle such things like the wheelchair and helping his father in and out of the car.
By the time they got home, Barbara had already made dinner for the entire family, having been awaiting her daughter and son in-law.
Jeffrey wheeled his father into the house.
"Hey, look at you," Jess commented. "You're finally home..."
"Oh, honey, how are you feeling?" Barbara chimed in. "Kids, your dad is home!"
"I'm alright, just a little tired," he nodded. "It smells really good in here..." he changed the subject easily.
"It does," Jeffrey agreed with a smile. "I'm gonna take this upstairs," he commented of his father's overnight bag.
"No, I'll take it," Stevie assured. "I wanna check on Shannon, I want them to come down for dinner," she explained, even though all she wanted was to get away from the smell of dinner because something was not agreeing with her.
As she made her way up the stairs, she passed her teenager and he grinned at the sight of her because last he saw her, she was fainting in the hospital corridor.
"Hey, how are you feeling?"
"I'm feeling much better now," she grinned, running her fingers through his hair.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I'm okay, sweet boy, don't worry about me," she nodded. "Go see your dad, I'm gonna check on your sister..."
He nodded and obeyed easily.
The singer then went ahead and dropped Robert's bag off in their bedroom and easily made her way down the hall to their daughter's room.
"Honey?" she pushed open the door.
Shannon rolled over from her nap and she looked at her mother.
"Your daddy and me are home now, doll... Your grandma made dinner," she claimed.
"Okay," she started to sit up, wincing from pain immediately.
"How's your shoulder?" she came in and helped her.
"Bad," she sighed. "It feels like there's a knife being shoved deep in between my bones. Michael set it back in place, it's just healing..."
"Yeah, I bet," she sighed.
"Getting up and down from laying down is the most painful part," she assured. "I'll meet you down there in a second... I'm gonna splash some cold water on my face to wake up a bit."
"Okay, baby doll, I'll be down there," she assured, swiping her hair out of the way before kissing her forehead and leaving her.
Shannon sighed to herself.
Other than Nicholas, it seemed that everybody was pretty caught up in the fact that they had their own things to handle that everybody forgot the fact that the singer had fainted earlier in the day.
Stevie made her way downstairs to join her family at the dining room table and she noticed Jeffrey moving his father's chair in order to wheel him at the head of the table instead and it was easy to feel bad for their situation, but thus, her husband seemed to be taking it like a champ.
"So, what did the specialist say, honey?" Barbara asked her son in-law as she settled her hands on the table.
As Robert explained things, everybody was beginning to take their seats at the table, but the format was surely off since Stevie gave her father the other head of the table.
