Chapter 44

Your hands slowly came undone from the praying motion and you let them fall down by your side in a silent manner. The wind blew against your figure, as you kept your gaze on the sky with a quiet sigh. They were gone and you were alone. Good, no? That’s what you always wanted after all. For them to be happy. . .and they must be happy lost into nothingness. Even if that’s truly where they ended up in, you can’t be sure, the only way to find out would be to follow them.

Which is impossible unless you somehow start the circle once again for your selfish gain. But you don’t feel the desire to do so. You are a god, is that what you really are? A god, a higher being, a divinity, a. . .a human.

Well, now that this is over, what are you gonna do?

Mh. . .not much entertainment you can indulge in to be honest, only grass. . .and water. . .and sky. . .and you. . .not much fun. You let yourself fall on the soft grass, with your back caressed by the green strands and your face toward the sky “I guess I will start by counting the stars, maybe my higher intelligence will come up with something by the time I finish” and so you did. You counted the stars, you counted the asteroids around Saturn, you counted the black holes littering the space, you counted all the moons of the Milky Way, you counted and counted as seasons passed, as the snow piled over your body and melted away.

Time to a god really means nothing, in a still world it doesn’t have any value, in a world with no stimulations time is just a word. Time is a man-made thing, and by now you rejected it, not having any more need of it. Going this way, your consciousness will fade by itself and maybe you are gonna reach nothingness yourself.

“Heyyyyy!”

Alright. . .this was weird. You don’t remember to make a sound, nor opening your mouth. . .as a matter of fact these were vibrations from a whole different island! What was this?! Could you have imagined it? Could it be the sound of rocks rubbing against each other and crumbling into the ocean? But what. . .what if it’s a new living being?! That would be impossible! You need to check it out.

You rose from your burial, dusting the grass blades and dirt off yourself just as the same sound reached your ears once again “Heyyyy!” Alright, you haven’t imagined it, and it was too acute to come from ice floes or falling debris. . .this means that there someone else remained from the old world?! This shouldn’t be possible! You made sure that every single trace of humans disappeared and nothing remained.

Your legs dragged you across the ocean, till reaching a smaller island, from which the voice got louder and louder. Your curiosity started eating your mind away, not able to hide your excitement at the prospect of something new after all this stillness, after all this loneliness. A crater, that was what was in this smaller island, a crater from which the voice gave another small squeak before falling silent.

You hesitated, before peering inside the hole, various rock structures filled the crater like a beautiful crystal. Yet you couldn’t see anything that resembled the living forms you always knew. . .uhhh. . .alright, this was weird. But you were pretty sure the sound came from this island, maybe your ears were so keen that it actually came from another island further away.

“Oh”

There it was, the cute sound! So you weren't wrong. And it came. . .from a rock? That. . .that actually took you by surprise. “I have been here a while, trying to figure out how to express my existence, but nobody answered me. I’m glad you came along” you kept your gaze on the rock silently as it explained its whole predicament, before slowly bringing a hand over your mouth as flowers bloomed all around your head “Oh my stars. . .you are so cute. . .”
