David's POV:
"I'm going to sue them,"
"No one is suing anyone!"
"You could have died tonight!"
"But I didn't, so just drop it!" This argument has been going on since I got into the elevator with Haylie, Cameron, and Anela. They arrived at the hotel just as I was holding her in my lap.
When they heard what had happened, it was like two erupting volcanoes. Both were flying over Ariel like two parent helicopters, hovering over her. While trying to comfort her as I held her in my arms.
The paramedics were checking Anela, making sure that she was ok. She had a knock on the back of her head when she was in the elevator.
Telling them that she felt very dizzy and weak, she wasn't able to stand or walk on her own. They advise that she be on bed rest before the final, which means no training for her.
That was something that she was not happy about. But Uncle Richard, the team, and I weren't going to take any chances. Not after what had happened tonight.
When they heard what had happened, while I was doing CPR, they were standing in the lobby. Hoping that Ariel would wake up and be ok.
As I was holding her in my arms, some of them tried to shield the few tears that they cried.
This was something that had never happened in our team before. Besides the death of Carson, to experience one of our own nearly dying in front of us, scared many of us.
That's why I carried her into the elevator and made sure that she was leaning on me. Haylie basically bit the hotel's manager's head off after learning what happened to her cousin.
Demanding an explanation for why the staircase was still under repair? The manager nervously tried to apologize for the inconvenience while not giving any clear explanation.
Which only ticked Haylie off even further. Threatening to book a penthouse at another hotel where their staircase is in good condition.
But Anela won't let that happen unless the whole team goes with her.
"I still think we should let your dad know what happened, Jenna." Cameron has been trying to reason with Anela about calling her dad. Which she refused to do and doesn't seem to be losing ground on that decision,
"The last thing I want to happen is my father coming two days early to San Francisco before the final match. Plus, he doesn't need any more stress right now. Me being here is enough stress as it is."
Haylie shook her head in disapproval of her cousin's argument, "You are being very foolish not to tell your dad. Even more foolish to get into this thing, knowing what will happen.
And also, what were you doing in the elevator in the first place?"
Sighing through her nose while pushing her lips tightly together, "I got into a fallout with Junaid earlier.
And I was too fired up that I forgot to grab Mr Squishy before I got into the iron box. And then, out of nowhere, the stupid thing stopped working."
My eyebrows pulled together in confusion at the strange name, "Who's Mr Squishy?"
"That's the name of the squishy toy that my Mom got me for whenever I'm inside an elevator," Ariel explained with irritation in her voice. Like she just started waking up and isn't a morning person. I know that she isn't on most days.
"What were you and Junaid fighting about?" I asked gently, curious to know exactly why I'm gonna beat the idiot for this. Anela gave me a cold look as she answered,
"That I found out about Carter, and that he, Raymond, and everyone else kept it all from me."
