"The 6th wave of moogers hit at dawn. The rising sun turning the sky orange.
Though it was summer, the day before the sun fully rose was cool and breezy.
Jayden felt his shoulders beginning to burn slightly. He had been lugging his Fire Smasher around for a while.
"Hyahhhh!" Jayden did a 360 swing with his Fire Smasher, hitting all 12 moogers that surrounded him, feeling the weight of the motion in his aching shoulders.
The moogers fell, crumbling into gray pieces of dust.
"Huh, I think that's it." Mike found Jayden at the center of the grass field and ran up to him, heaving from his portion of the battle.
"They're crazy for attacking a college campus. There's already enough misery and dread around here." Mike let out a sigh, stretching out his arms.
"Are you sure? I don't think there's enough." A fleet of icicles pierced into the grass field, sending a frigid mist floating over the ground.
Though seeming heavy, a nighlok who appeared like boulders of snow approached with floaty steps. Both of its arms were large, bouldery cannons with sharp, blade edges.
"Well well well! We haven't done this in a while." Mike prepared to charge with his Forest Spear, excited to test his new strength against the first true nighlok appearance since the broken seal.
"Wait." Jayden quickly caught the end of Mike's Forest Spear before he could charge, halting him in the middle of his attempted dash.
"We don't have enough energy to defeat him. We need to stall until he dries up." Jayden swapped his Fire Smasher for his spinsword.
"Woahh!" Mike and Jayden both side-stepped and crouched, letting a series of ice daggers shot from the snow nighlok's cannon fly past their heads with a whistling sound.
"You right." Mike remembered his own exhaustion from the multiple waves of moogers they fought, switching from his Forest Spear to his spinsword.
"Let's split up. You distract. I'll use my fire on him." Jayden tried to calculate how much fire he had in him.
With his current state, probably 3 good fiery slashes with his spinsword.
"Hey snowman!" Mike nodded before taking off across the frosty field, reaching the other side of the nighlok.
"It's Snuman!" The nighlok grumbled. "Everyone always gets it wrong!!"
"I've waited too long to freeze over this world. You will not get in my way!"
With a deep rumble, the temperature dropped significantly, summer turning back to winter. Gray clouds formed, gathering together with flurries of snowflakes coming down.
The ranger suits were, of course, weather-resistant, but not resistant to the nighlok's power. Some of the cold permeated through.
"J-Jayden??" Mike's teeth clattered, feeling his body become stiffer. "Now would be a good time to heat things up. Before we can't move."
"Looks like I have to." With a shiver, Jayden pulled out the black box.
Centuries ago, the red ranger forged this box as a means of granting the rangers more power.
This would be the first time Jayden used it in battle, as it was unlocked over their hiatus.
"Alright." Jayden attached the black box to his spinsword, then clicked his fire disc to it.
