Ep. 15 "All Good Things Must Come To An End" Ch. 6/9

•——— ——— —•——

No movement. Not a peep. Not a squeak. Completely void. And as far as Joy could tell, magically disappearing wasn't one of the Zeros' talents.

But the waiting was making her antsy, and an antsy sniper was never good to have.

"Anybody tries to come in that front door is stepping right into our kill box." Warren tried to reassure them all—or herself—but it had yet to work for anyone.

The longer the Zeros were gone from their view, the longer they had to plan. And the better the plan, the worse their chances of screwing it up to deal with it in their maniac way.

Basically, if Joy didn't see a Zero soon, she'd start shooting trees and waste bullets just to quell her anxiety.

Luckily for her supply of bullets, it wasn't much longer before a sign of life appeared by the edge of the forest.

"Cubrirse! Cubrirse!" Someone shouted with a megaphone in the distance, the Zeros filing into two neat lines, one behind the other—where did they even get a megaphone from?

"Now, what are they up to?"

"Something about covering." Joy translated from her position, knees already aching as she scouted around for La Reina.

How did 10K do this so often without having an old man's knees? Joy had been appointed as sniper for less than an hour, and she felt as if her joints had aged a decade.

"Cover what?" Joy shrugged.

"Didn't say."

One last spin around the Zero line proved useful as Joy finally set eyes in La Reina tucked at the very back between her own escort of half-infected Zeros, a megaphone in hand and a menacing smirk bordering insanity.

Joy would know all about it, she'd been proclaimed insane by her very own personal psychologist; Doc.

"Hey, Roberta!" La Reina yelled into the megaphone with a screech, Joy wincing at the sharp echo that came with it until it settled into just a booming voice.

"Hey. It's not you I came after, just Murphy, hm? I only want Murphy. You give him to me, and we can still be friends."

"Too late, chica. He's gone." Warren yelled back—not with a megaphone, but just as imposing and threatening as La Reina sounded.

So much so that Joy saw her scowl through the scope.

"La ves, princesa?" Carefully, Joy nodded, already slotting her finger into the trigger.

If Vasquez didn't want her to shoot La Reina, he wouldn't have asked for her view after his own eyesight proved to be blocked by the boarded windows.

Through scowling herpes lips, La Reina squeaked out a slow yet full of anger question; "Dónde está Murfi?"
