Everyone seemed to rush to jump into the fight, but Joy was seriously debating lowering her pace to a casual stroll because she hated running, and running downhill was even worse.
You'd think that it would be easier, but it wasn't. Because when you ran downhill, you had to make sure that the momentum of gravity didn't drag you forward, and you fell like a tumbleweed in an old western movie. Similarly to what happened when you ran uphill and gravity tried pulling you backwards. Or when you ran on steady ground and gravity was pulling you downwards.
So, Joy hated running in general because gravity was constantly against her, no matter what she tried.
And she hated running much more when a surprise waited for her once she reached the bottom of the hill.
"Hello there." Joy greeted the zombie that had managed to latch itself onto her sleeve right before she slipped past the broken piece of fence.
However, the zombie didn't get to greet her in return before 10K took out his pistol and shot it between the eyes. Rude—first it tried to eat Joy, and now he'd never get a chance to greet her back before she stuck her hatchet into its brain.
Nonetheless, Joy still turned to thank 10K, but Warren was in the same boat as the zombie—the rude and rushed boat, that is.
"Hurry up!" Warren yelled from the front of the pack of five survivors, cutting Joy's thanks and rushing them, so 10K tugged on her arm and pushed her in front of him until...
Could Joy go back to the hill? She'd rather not be stuck between Red and Warren—the two bossiest women left alive in the apocalypse.
Apparently not because Red just kept pushing her and weaving between falling zombies so as to not be bitten.
Yes, literal falling zombies.
The wall Doc had built and painted in bright red hadn't held—or perhaps the flimsy fence around the compound was to blame—and now a small horde had reached the edges of the stacked abandoned crates and overall debris.
And because mutated dead humans that could kill you with a single bite wasn't annoying enough, the zombies had also learned to climb and were swarming them from above.
Luckily, 5K was a pretty good shot, even though he'd only had about two hours of training. So any zombie that dared climb over and into his path, he was quick to shoot dead so they could continue on their path.
But he was no 10K, and their luck never tended to last.
When a zombie with a green plaid and half a piece of skull hanging from its head fell into their path, 5K sent a gear flying in between its eyes.
