Ep. 15 "All Good Things Must Come To An End" Ch. 9/9

•———— ————— —•—

Red blared in his vision. Red and black. Red and the void. Red and her face in his dreams. Red. Red. Red.

Then, his hearing returned. Little by little. It started as an echo, a shrill noise that pierced his eardrums, then left. Came back, and left again, it's volume slowly increasing until it was impossible to ignore, until the noise drowned out the sound of her goodbye.

10K rose with a start, his eyes fluttering open to the beat of the incessant alarm and pounding footsteps in the hall. However, it wasn't only the annoying surroundings that woke him up, but the dull pain over his abdomen.

He got shot. He needed surgery. He promised he'd make it back.

God, could that alarm shut up already?

Gritting his teeth together, pushing past the ache in his abdomen, 10K rose to his forearms, trying to find any semblance of the heavily bleeding wound he'd seen before passing out. However, he saw not a speck of blood on the pristine white bandage as he rose to a sitting position.

Perhaps he couldn't do any heavy lifting for a couple of weeks, but the fact that he could rise from being a board meant 10K could fulfill his promise to Joy—he'd find his way back to her.

Besides, remaining on a submarine that was blaring with alarms and running corporals didn't seem like a good idea.

Although his legs felt like Jello, and his mind was still blurry with anesthesia, 10K forced himself to stand, hands stretched and reaching for his clothes discarded over a chair.

He fell onto it, a grunt spilling past his lips, but 10K collected his clothes, nonetheless. All he needed to focus on was getting off the submarine and into Joy's arms.

Everything would be better once he was next to her, both of them safe and sound.

Alarm still blaring, pounding in his ears, 10K stumbled into the corridor, nearly colliding with a soldier clad in black, yet he paid 10K little mind before moving on with his duties.

But the soldier wasn't a concern of 10K's, his concern fell on the bright-green sign labelled 'exit'.

After this, 10K was finally going to accept Joy's offer to move away to the deepest confinements of Alaska.

10K stumbled past another couple of corridors when he finally caught sight of what had caused the alarms to blare—neon blue-eyed zombie soldiers eating each other.

It looked straight out of one of Joy's more tame dreams.

The few soldiers who weren't zombified ran around like maniacs, bumping into each other and the walls trying to run the other way—taking 10K with them in the process.
