Ep. 1 "No Mercy (Part One)" Ch. 6/7

•——— ——— —•——

Joy was a complainer, there was no secret about that. However, what she did consistently keep a secret was how much she enjoyed the company of others after months of travelling alone with the group.

When every day she saw the same faces, smelled the same smells, and heard the same snores, the constant company started to get old. So, to see anyone who wasn't a part of the group was like a fresh opportunity handed to her on a silver platter.

Usually, she enjoyed traumatizing other people. But, when the other person was near-impossible to traumatize, Joy didn't find the fun of meeting more people.

Yet another reason to stay far away from Red. That girl was impossible to traumatize—Joy had tried.

Except, when Warren told—more like ordered—Joy and 10K to be on perimeter watch for The Man's inevitable attack with Red, Joy couldn't refuse.

Trust me, she tried.

So, 10K was forced to practically drag her by the hand across the compound so they could meet with Red before they started their rounds.

"Do we have to?" Joy whined for the hundredth time, hoping that 10K would finally relent and give in. He didn't even like Red that much anyway, he was always acting weirder than usual around her.

Alas, he only tugged at her wrist again.

"She knows the perimeter."

"It can't be that hard to figure it out."

All Joy had to do was walk around the fence, try to shoot anything or anyone that came close, fail, and then have 10K take care of it. Easy enough, no need to have Red around at all.

Yet, 10K still dragged Joy towards her. To the girl she'd rather use as a piñata than a sister-in-arms—Addy had filled that role already. And Joy was beginning to think that 10K was a terrible boyfriend because of it.

Red didn't quite glare at Joy, but her look wasn't exactly friendly, or nice, or even understandable. In fact, Joy couldn't tell what Red was thinking at all. She was a very confusing person.

Joy, on the other hand, was a much more open book—she blatantly and unapologetically glared at Red when they came up to her.

"Ready?" 10K shuffled closer to Joy, hand still wrapped tightly around her wrist as he nodded.

See? He was clearly uncomfortable. But according to Warren Joy was just making stuff up, and she had no say in what their task would be. Maybe it was Warren who Joy needed to blame for this awkward situation instead.

"Debatable." Finally, Red showed an emotion other than blank face. She furrowed her brows, brown eyes soft as she stared at Joy with a tilted head.

Red was assessing her as a threat—or so Joy wanted to believe so she had an excuse to narrow her eyes further.
