'Zoe really loves to plan things.' I thought as I was being told that she made reservations to a French restaurant tonight. "The food there is marvelous!" she explained. Zoe told me that the place was called "Faible," which is pronounced "Fah-bluh". I was curious as to what "Faible" meant, so I searched it up. It was surprising to me when I found out that it meant "weak". I walked up to Zoe and tapped her on the shoulder. "Yeah Connor?" she asked, beaming with beauty. "Hey I just wanted to know if you knew why this restaurant was called 'Faible', I searched it up and it means 'weak'." Zoe looked up for a second to think about it, and then met my eyes again. "I don't know actually. We should ask someone once we arrive." I nodded and turned away.
Tyler, Troye, Caspar, Joe, and I were all once again at Zoe's house hanging out. Alfie and Louise were there as well, and we were just trying to find something to keep up busy before we went to the restaurant. It was around seven PM and all I could think about was my "Coming Out" video. I wasn't sure when to post it, or if I even should post it. It was nerve-wracking.
All of a sudden, Alfie came out of nowhere and threw a box of cards on the coffee table in front of all of us and said, "Let's play goldfish." Everyone bursted out with laughter. "Goldfish?" Tyler asked. "Yeah why not?" Alfie questioned. Tyler put on a straight face and looked at Alfie. "Babe," he started, "we aren't in the first grade." I laughed a little. "It's also called GO fish." I was still mad at Tyler, but sometimes it's just hard to not laugh at him.
Our reservation at "Faible" was at eight, so we left Zoe and Alfie's house at seven thirty. The taxi ride was filled with silence, followed by Zoe's vlogging, you know how it goes. At last, we were at the restaurant. "Faible" was written in big red cursive letters across the top of the building. It didn't look too big, nor too small. It was a comfortable size for a restaurant. I liked that.
The inside of the restaurant was dim and romantic. Candles were lit pretty much everywhere, and filled up the room with a scented delight. There were a few mini chandeliers here and there, but over all is was a really cute petitish place. Zoe walked in first and talked to the reservation holder standing at the front. "We have reservations for eight." The lady at the front smiled. "Okay," she said, "could I get your last name please?" Zoe smiled. "Sugg". "Ah! Sugg! Right this way everyone." The lady directed us to a long table with eight seats.
Troye and I sat next to each other, and Zoe sat next to Alfie in front of us. Louise was next to Troye and Tyler was in front of Louise. Caspar and Joe were sitting on the end. We were soon joined by a waiter. "Bonjour! How is everyone tonight?" Everyone at the table put on the I'm-making-a-fake-smile-right-now-because-I'm-talking-to-an-adult face like the one that most kids put on when they're talking to a teacher or a friend's parent. "Good," we then all said. The waiter asked us what we wanted to drink and told us he would be back to get our orders for food afterwards. He started to walk away. "Wait!" Zoe exclaimed at the waiter. He turned back around and faced our table. "Connor, didn't you have a question about the restaurant name?" I made eye contact with the waiter. "Oh yeah." The waiter stood in front of me. "Yes?" he said, smiling. "Okay, well I was just interested in the name of this restaurant. I looked up what 'Faible' meant, and it means 'weak'."
"Ahhhh." The waiter said. "Allow me to explain." I could tell he was about to give me a relatively long response. "You see, in France, we say 'J'ai un faible pour toi', which means 'I have a crush on you', although, that's not what it actually means. In English, that's what it would be translated to, but it really means 'I have a weakness for you'. So yes, the name of this restaurant is 'weak', but that's only a direct translation. It really means 'crush'."
I was very impressed by that well thought out way of expressing feelings, and I'm sure the others were as well. "So," I began to respond to the waiter, "why do you refer to your crush as your 'weakness'?" He smiled. "Your crush is someone you're usually not dating yet," he explained, "they're a person you're shy around, and it can be hard to express yourself to them sometimes. They conceal you. You're weak when you're around them." I nodded in agreement. "That's so weird though," I said, "I don't understand why we do that around our crushes." I was still looking at the waiter, but I felt Troye's eyes on me. The waiter laughed a little, and then began to speak once more, "The heart has reason, that reason doesn't understand." I was in awe. And before I could even open my mouth to respond to him, he had left to grab our drinks. This waiter had a way with words. It was beautiful. On top of that, the food was fantastic and probably some of the best food on the planet.
Hours later, we were back at Caspar and Joe's house, and I went directly back to the guest room and went on my computer. I opened my "Coming Out" video on Final Cut Pro and just stared at it. I was unsure of myself. I was afraid. Troye joined me not long after. Though I was kind of getting used to Troye dropping in randomly, I was still excited to see him. "Still up?" he asked. "Yeah." I responded. Tyler was in the living room watching TV, so I was alone until Troye came in. "Don't tell me you're still stressing over your video." Troye said to me. "Sorry......"
"Why are you sorry?"
"Because I'm stressing over my video."
"Connor...." Troye came and sat next to me. "You can't hide this."
"I know." I said. My hands were resting on the keyboard of my computer, and I was just staring at the screen, not making eye contact with the handsome boy to my left. I soon felt his hand on my left hand. "It hurts me to see you stress over things, Connor."
"Why?"
"Because,"
"Because......?"
"I have a weakness for you."
