You've just arrived at your friend Calum's house to celebrate Halloween. The outside is fully decorated with pumpkins, ghosts, witches, and all other things associated with the holiday, ready for trick-or-treaters. It is currently 2:00 so kids should be making their way over there within the next thirty minutes. You and Calum are going to hand out candy and then watch some movies on TV; it will be a great Halloween with a great friend and you can't wait.

A few seconds after ringing the doorbell, the door opens to reveal Calum half dressed as Luigi. He is hatless, gloveless, mustache-less, shirtless, and although he has the overalls on, he isn't wearing the straps yet so they are barely staying on him around his hips. Your eyes are wide. You have never seen Calum shirtless since you became friends, and you can't help but notice how fit he is.

"Whoa, Cal, you could've at least put on a shirt before answering the door." you say as he is hurriedly getting dressed while you talk. He laughs putting the green shirt over his head.

"Here. Now am I decent enough for you?" he asks once the shirt is fully on him.

"Yes, thank you." You close the door and he smiles to himself as he slips his arms through the overall straps. You are already in your costume, a pink lady from Grease.

"So which one are you?" Calum asks putting his shoes on.

"Rizzo." you answer while looking in the living room mirror fixing your hair. You don't see him but you hear him snicker behind you. "Something funny, Hood?"

He laughs out loud now. "Well I mean it's just that..you know...you're not a Rizzo. You're more like Frenchy if any of them."

Turning around sharply, you ask "What do you mean I'm 'not a Rizzo?'"

He walks over to you, "Rizzo is a rebel. She's the baddest of the group. You are not. You're more like Frenchy. Bubbly and not really that bad. I mean really you should've been Sandy if you were set on Grease." he ends with a chuckle.

As he walks away from you, you think about it. He's right. If anything, you're a goodie two shoes. You've never broken a rule in your life and hate taking risks. But why is that a bad thing?

"Are you saying I can't be rebellious?" you question. This makes Calum laugh harder. Obviously he doesn't think so. "I can so!"

"Oh really? ...Then may I propose a challenge?" he counters.

"Bring it. What do you want me to do?" you retort not backing down. He puts on his hat and gloves as if preparing for battle before walking slowly back over to you.

"I challenge you to go trick or treating today, instead of handing out candy. I don't care that you're too old, that's what makes it rebellious. I'll go with you 'cause it actually sounds really fun. Do you accept my challenge, or reject it and therefore admit that you, Y/N Y/L/N, cannot be a rebel?" You don't know what to think. You know it's wrong for you to go trick or treating at your age, and if you aren't convincing enough then you'll get caught. You definitely don't feel good about it, but you need to prove a point.

You step closer to him and look intensely into his eyes. "I accept your challenge. ...But you do realize that you are going to get found out immediately, right? You're a giant and your voice is deep as hell."

"Not necessarily. All I have to do is talk a little higher and say I grew really fast. I'll say I'm in grade eight. No big deal." He was being ridiculous but now you grew more comfortable with this plan because next to Calum, you were going to look like an actual middle schooler.

"Okay, let's go then. I'm ready if you are." He seems surprised at your willingness. Calum slaps on his mustache completing his look. You grab a couple of grocery bags and quickly write up a sign to go with your bowl of candy that says to take one piece, and put the bowl in front of the door on your way out.

Walking down his street, Calum asks, "Nervous?" He must see the slight anxiety in your face.

"A little. But I'm not backing out now." you smile up at him. He looks down at you and returns it, with a slight hint of pride. He never thought you would really do something like this and take a chance.

The first few houses, no one questions either of you so you must look younger than you are despite Calum's height. As you walk around the neighborhood still not getting questioned or caught, you grow more confident and it becomes genuinely fun. At times, Calum laughs at you as you scamper away from a house and skip along to the next one, forgetting momentarily that you are rule breakers. You all of a sudden seemed more adorable than usual to him.

When it is nearing the end of trick-or-treating hours, you start making the walk back to his house getting the last couple of houses on the way. You look inside your bag at all the goodies you now have to pig out on that night. "I can't believe it. This has been the best Halloween ever!"

"See? Wasn't this better than sitting at my house giving candy away instead of getting candy for ourselves?" he says.

"For sure. I mean this is wrong, but I don't even care! I feel so alive!" you cheer jumping up in the air.

He laughs at you saying, "I'm glad. FYI, that's how it always feels to get away with stuff. We should do bad things more often."

You shake your head. "Um no thanks, I'm not making a habit of this."

"Okay fine. Here's the last house. We pull this one off, and the challenge will be completed." he smiles mischievously. You take a deep breath as you walk up and ring the doorbell. The door opens and you both internally panic. This house is one of your teacher's. She'll know you and you'll be caught. You look at each other wondering whether to abort. But it's too late. You try as best as you can to hide your faces in the hopes she won't recognize you.

"Trick or treat." you say together in your 'younger' voices. Out of habit you suppose, she puts a piece of candy in each of your bags. She looks up towards your faces so you quickly thank her and turn to leave.

"Wait a minute." she says. You stop in your tracks. Your heart begins beating out of your chest. So close. "Turn around." Not being able to object, you both turn and she says "I knew it!" Before she can say anything else, Calum takes your hand, and lifts you onto his back as he starts running towards his house.

You can hear her shouting after you to come back but you two are long gone in seconds thanks to Calum's long legs. This is the biggest adrenaline rush you have ever had. "Calum this is crazy!!" you shout as he sprints.

"We couldn't stay there, we would've been toast!" he responds between huffs. In less than a minute, you're at his front door and he makes you both collapse to the ground. Neither of you are able to speak for a solid five minutes. That was really a close one, but yet even though you know you'll get in trouble on Monday, somehow it was still worth it.

Finally breathing normally again, you go and sit next to Calum on the steps and speak up. "Well what do you say? Was my challenge completed?"

"In every way, Y/N. You were successfully a rebel today. I'm proud of you." He puts his arm around you and you feel your face heat up, even though your face is freezing from being in the cold wind all afternoon.

"Thanks. I really did have fun. I took the risk and this is my reward." You hold up your bag full of candy proudly. "But I couldn't have done it without you. Thanks for helping me live a little, Cal." You decide to be bold and give him a kiss on the cheek. If you're not mistaken, you saw his face redden a little. More than it already was from the wind.

"Don't mention it. C'mon let's go in and empty our loot. I'll give you ones I don't like if you give me yours." he says standing up.

"Deal." He opens the door for you and follows in after you, going to the living room.

No lie, today was not what you planned by any means and out of your comfort zone, but Calum being there with you made it easier in some way. He's always been a source of comfort for you and truth be told, today made you see things clearer; you like him. A lot. Does he like you? You would have to find out. Lucky for you, you have the rest of the evening with him, sorting through your bags and watching movies to figure it out. But somehow you think it won't take too long seeing as he just sat next to you on the floor with his bag, and returned your kiss on the cheek you gave him moments ago.
