I think this one is so lovely and having a dog just makes a family come together even more. Hope you like it and if you have any oneshots you want me to make just let me know.

Maya's POV

"Can we?" I asked.

"NO!"

"please?!"

"Not yet." he said narrowing his eyes to try to bring me down.

"Riley's almost 3, and bump wants one." I persisted. He scrunched up his face and I knew I almost had him.

"Should a baby be around a dog?" He asked.

"If we keep it at a distance the baby will be fine... And dogs are really protective over babies." I said. He flipped a bit of hair out of his face and then sighed

"Well then, i guess we better go get one!" I leapt off the sofa and danced around humming until little Riley came from around the corner and jumped into my arms

"PUPPY, PUPPY, MOMMY!!" She screamed with happiness.

Lucas looked at us both, smiled and put his head in his hands shaking it as he did.

Lucas' POV

The next day, Riley came sprinting down the stairs inront of Maya who seemed to be nearly as happy as Riley. It wasn't that I didn't want to have a dog because I did, I just didn't want the baby to be affected by it, I had been so over protective since the day Riley was born and now Maya was pregnant again I wanted to be even more careful, I couldn't loose them. I don't know what i would do without them here with me.

The whole car drive there was theories of what our new dog could look like but I didn't say anything because I saw how happy they were and I wasn't going to take it away from them.

We looked around the whole pound looking at puppies, older dogs, little dogs and humongous dogs that Riley could have ridden but with everyone I saw I got this uneasy feeling like it wasn't the right fit. Something about getting a dog in general didn't feel right and I knew exactly why.

Maya's POV

When we got to the pound me and Riley were so happy. There were dogs everywhere of all shapes and sizes I don't think Riley knew how may kinds of dogs there were, infact I didn't know either.

Maya's POV

Every time we saw a dog that we liked Lucas found as reason why we shouldn't take it; it was either too small, too little or too ugly. When we had nearly gotten through the whole pound I realized why.

"Riley stay her by the cage me and daddy are just gonna be a meter away, don't move ok?" I demanded.

"Ok, mommy." She smiled away at the dogs in front of her creating images of what she could do with them. I gently took Lucas away to the side making sure I still had Riley in my sites.

"Lucas, I know why you've been so hesistant about getting a dog." I said.

"Oh, I'm just worried..." He uttered.

"You don't gave to be. When Riley being born was a one off thing, its probably never going to happen again." I whispered gently.

"You said probably which means it could happen again, you don't understand the way I felt that day. You were both just lying there in the delivery room lifeless, with people running around you and long beeping in machines, I thought you were dead. When I knew you were ok I promised myself that I would never let anything like that ever happened again." He whispered back trying not to let Riley know what was happening. He stared straight at me with his eyes widened and I could see that he meant very word.

"You can't control what happens to us, you have to live in the moment and appreciate all the time we have together. A dog isn't going to harm anyone and look at how happy she looks." I said. He looked at her and smiled.

"Mommy, daddy this one." Riley shouted. She was looking into a cage full of white, spotty Dalmatian puppies.

"What one do you want?" Lucas gently whispered and bent down to her height.

She pointed at the smallest one in the corner all alone, it seemed sad and it looked like it was only just coming into its spots unlike the others. Lucas looked at me nodding his head

"Perfect." I giggled.

Aww this one just gives me butterflies. I'm SO exited for my next one. I think I'm going to continue the story about Maya and Lucas wining the baby doll experiment and getting tickets to the cinema. Hope you enjoyed and remember to comment with Any suggestions.
