Forgotten Birthdays!

Maya's POV

I woke up that day so happy, not because it was my birthday but because Lucas always took this day to surprise me with something really romantic.

"Good morning!" He shouted walking down the stairs into the lounge.

"So what'd you get me?" I asked him holding out my hands.

"What!!" He asked looking puzzled.

"It's my birthday today." I said feeling a little confused.

"Omg, Maya I'm so sorry. I forgot!" He lowered his voice.

"Oh that's ok." I teased him because I knew he hadn't really, he did I forgot thing every year.

"No Maya I'm really sorry but I did forget." He looked really worried and that's when it hit me, he had really forgotten. "Wait let me make it up to you I will make a reservation for giovannis ' I'll pick you up at 10." He put on a smile as he left out the door for baseball practise.

This was it. This was where my marriage began to fall apart. I had always heard of stories where men start to forget about you after your first child so I guess we had made it to our second. He had never forgot my birthday and it made me wonder if he had forgotten anything else.

I looked around the entire house looking to see if maybe he had his my present but no matter how hard I tried I couldn't find and right there was where I lost all hope.

"Maya where are you?!" Riley called from the hallway.

"In the kitchen." I shouted back.

"what's going on in here?" She said as she looked around to see everything scattered around.

"I think he actually forgot my birthday!" I sighed as her face dropped.

"But he never forgets." She said looking confused. "He must of gotten you something."

"You didn't see his face. He seemed genuinely surprised." I explained. "Do you think he still loves me?"

"Awe honey... Come sit here." She gestured to dining table chairs. "Look just because he forgot doesn't mean he doesn't love you. When he knows your not looking he watches you and I watch the way he smiles at everything you do. So don't ever think he doesn't love you, ok?"

I nodded but deep inside something still made me feel uneasy. Could someone that I love so much not love me the same.

10 o'clock that night.....

"You ready babe?!" I heard him call as he shut the door. But I didn't respond.

"Babe come on!" He said as he saw me sitting in the sofa. I got up but I didn't say a thing I didn't know what to say, I just wanted to crawl up into a ball.

When we got there all I saw was an alley and a door to the back of some restaurant and I knew he hadn't even tried. We had got to the door but I stood in front of it.

"Clutterbucket you have to open the door to go inside." He teased me.

"You forgot my birthday. You've never done that."

"Look just open the door." He insisted.

"You make me vulnerable, open and somehow just by being around you I feel safe and I was non of those things years ago. You make me a better person but if I don't make you happy the way you make me happy I understand. You've never forgotten my birthday before and you love spoiling me every year so I have to ask you this. Do you still love me?!!" I asked him.

"So you know what I love most about your birthday is?" He smirked like I was joking.

"What?" I started to get angry

"Making you realise how much I love you!" He opened the tatty door and when he did all I saw was twinkly lights and a table in the middle of the room.

"You... Did. You?" I was speechless and the anger inside me turned into love which then lead to tears. As we walked in I saw shepherd come into the little stage at the back of the room.

"Can you remember that dance that we had at the school?" He asked me.

"Yeah, and when I asked why you were dancing with me you got all scared." I giggled with a little tear running from my eye.

"Well this year I thought I'd recreate it so we can have the dance and I promise I won't deny it this time." He laughed.

"Huckleberry, your amazing." I whispered before pushing my lips against his as if it was the first time...
