Fathers day

Maya's POV

"Hey Riley?" I called out as my blonde little girl walked around admiring the new dress she had on.

"Yes Mummy?" She responded strutting over to me.

"Go in the living room and give this to daddy." I explained.

"Is it dried?" She asked as her eyes widened.

"Yes." I replied. And without her saying a word she took the card almost snatching it and flared her nostrils with excitement. I watched her as she pounced down the hallway giggling all the way.

"Daddy." She yelled with excitement. "Here's your daddy's day card."

I watched as he looked so happy to see all of the messy glitter and crooked writing and it reminded me of how when I was little my dad didn't do the things Lucas did. I couldn't help it but it made me angry. Why could he have just pretended he cared, if only for a few minutes?

"Hey babe." Lucas called over to me. "Come look at this!"

By now I was so upset that I just didn't want to be there. I wanted to go upstairs, curl up into a ball and cry.

Lucas' POV

"Yes, it's lovely." Maya snapped. "Now can we go to the park?"

The whole way there she didn't say a word, it was like something had changed in her. I didn't think I had done anything wrong but I couldn't be sure.

"Is everything ok?" I asked as she sped through the traffic.

"Yep." That was all she said without any feeling or emotion; she was completely monotone.

"Come on!" Riley yelled as the car stopped. I ran to her door and un-done her straps before lifting her out and racing her to the swings.

We were having so much fun that I forgot how upset Maya looked until Riley ran over to her.

"Mummy, come play with us." She said jumping around.

"No." She responded. "Your having fun with daddy today."

When Riley turned back around I could see the disappointment in her face and that was it J was going to confront her.

"What is wrong with you today?" I whispered making sure that Riley who was now in the climbing frame couldn't hear us.

"It's nothing." She replied. "Leave me alone."

"I'm not leaving until you tell me what I did?" I insisted making my voice a little louder so she knew how serious I was.

"NO!!" She screamed, making Riley turn and look at us. Suddenly she turned red and tears started to appear in her eyes before she ran back to car.

The way back wasn't anymore fun than the park. She was completely quiet, in fact, so were me and Riley.

Maya's POV

I felt so bad for yelling but everything my dad had done to me kept bubbling back up and I wanted it to disappear. I waited for Riley to go out in the garden and then I sat on the sofa next to Lucas.

"I'm sorry." I apologised. "I didn't mean to be so loud."

"It's fine." He replied as gracious as he always was. "Just tell me what's wrong?"

"It my dad!" I explained. "I don't know why but today just made me angry, angry at everything he has ever done to me."

"Maya, you are so good." He said making me confused.

"What?"

"You are the greatest mum and wife and you still somehow get inspired to be an amazing artist." He said making me blush. "but you let the past ruin the life you have, you shouldn't worry about him, he's an idiot for not getting to see you grow up into the person you are, besides if he hadn't left you wouldn't be this strong, independent woman that you are. Don't let him ruin today or any day." As soon as the words came from his mouth I felt better even after all these years he still fixed me.

"Come on then?" I beamed as I jumped off the sofa and headed to the door to put on my shoes. "Last one outside had to wash the dishes!"

"Your on!" He shouted as he came speeding towards me giggling like a child.

I know his one is a little bland but I'm not very well and I'm not exactly a great writer but I hope you enjoyed it anyway 😷😷
