Lucas' POV
"Are you all set Buddy?" I called out to Shawn. It was his first baseball game and I could tell he was nervous.
"I'm fine Dad, can we go?" He replied with absolutely no confidence.
"Yep, let's go!" I raised my voice so Riley could hear us over her music. Maya looked over at me worryingly.
Once we had got there the kids jumped out the car not saying a word and slammed their doors behind them.
"Should we be letting him do this Lucas?" She questioned me.
"Of course, he knows what he's doing and besides it's just for fun." I replied.
"Ok, but I think he really wants to impress you." She said under her breath just loud enough so I could still hear her. I shook it off but halfway through the game, he got so angry that he was loosing and through the bat; I realized that I hadn't told him to just have fun and enjoy the game with his team mates. I had to do something.
I got to the fence and jumped over running across the field to him.
"Shawn!" I called.
"Dad, what are you doing?" He shouted back. I knelt down to his height.
"Look, you've got to stop getting upset, the moment you enjoy the game is the moment you start to win." but he interrupted me.
"But Dad, your so good and I need to be like you, people expect me to." He said. I had never thought about how he was affected by success. I took a deep breath.
"Shawn... You can be what ever you want to be, just as long as you enjoy it and you practice, just remember to have fun and enjoy what you do."
"Thanks Dad, but I do want to play baseball."
"Ok, son but you have to work really hard." I whispered and the I turned away to walk back uo to the bleachers.
Maya's POV
I only heard a bit of what Lucas said to Shawn and as cheesy as it was every word he said made my heart skip a beat. He was such a great person and he didn't even know it.
"Dad is so cool?" Riley said sitting next to me. I stayed staring at Lucas who was now heading back towards us.
"I know!" I uttered.
When we got home and all the kids were asleep and we sat on the sofa watching TV.
"What's wrong?" he asked after he noticed that I continuously stared at him.
"Your just such a great father to all the kids, your a great husband to me and you somehow do Everything with a smile on your face. Now I know why I love you so much." I whispered trying not to wake the kids up.
"Why do you love me so much?" He asked.
"Because your nothing like my father. You didn't drink when I asked you not to and we weren't even together. You never complain about anything and you have never left not even on the hardest days, not even when I'm giving you a really hard time. Your a good guy Lucas Friar." I continued to whisper.
He looked straight at me for a moment
"That's because of how much I love YOU." he replied and then leaned in and gently kissed me on the cheek before turning to look back at TV.

I think 'girl meets forgiveness' really inspired this one shot just because it's about her father and how he left. Anyway I hope you liked it and if you have any suggestions just let me know.
