Chapter 1: The Chase

Flynn Cortez

A deep sigh escaped my lips when my stomach grumbled its hunger protest. Letting me know that I haven't had a proper meal enter my system for days. Letting me know that I need to find food before I starve to death.

My stomach once again growled jerking me out of my thoughts. Ugh. I resisted the urge to rolled my eyes. If only I had money I would buy enough food until the day I die. I would rent a small apartment and buy a single bed with a soft mattress so that I wouldn't have to sleep on the sidewalk. I would buy new clothes and a pair of shoes, I'm really not comfortable walking barefoot. Sadly, I have been doing that for years. Oh and maybe I would buy a pair of contact lens so that I wouldn't need to wear these glasses on my eyes just to cover up my true identity. If only I had money I would have nothing to worry about.

The next thing I knew, something hit me hard on the face making me fall on the grass covered ground. I gasped in surprise and whimpered at the sudden pain on my left cheek. I was looking towards the other direction and there I saw a ball slowly rolling. It must be the thing that had hit me. I looked back towards the direction of the park and there a little boy stood in front of me. His eyes widened in amazement when he saw me. That's when I realized I haven't wearing my glasses. Oh sh*t!

I immediately turned my back to the boy. I nervously looked around to find my glasses. It must have fallen when the ball hit me in the face. When I finally saw it not far from where I stood, I quickly made my way towards it. I picked it up from the ground and wore it. From there I started to walk away casually like nothing unusual happened. Oh God, that boy is still innocent right? He doesn't know about me. He doesn't know about breeders and carriers. He doesn't know anything aside from playing and pestering his mom.

He doesn't know anything Flynn. I repeatedly reminded myself.

I started to walked down the street as I try to calm myself. I lowered my gaze and tried to avoid contact with people or maybe they're the one avoiding me. I'm not saying that I looked like sh*t but I'm don't looked presentable either. For years of living on the streets, it had covered who I really am which I am really thankful for.

I stopped walking when I noticed my feet had brought me beside a diner. Well, it wasn't just an ordinary diner, it was the most popular on the town where they cooked affordable yet delicious foods, 'food of the gods' as the customers always say.

I silently peeked through the full glass window of the restaurant. I made sure no one sees me. Just like the outside, it was busy on the inside which was not surprising anymore. My lips suddenly formed into a smile when I saw a familiar face behind the counter, Lira. She's kinda helping me through these years. Oh and she's a female breeder. I know I should stay away from her but I just can't. She's different. She doesn't want me as her carrier instead he treated me like her younger brother. But I must say it really took a long time before I trusted them both--she and her older brother. Speaking of her sibling, I glanced around the restaurant and didn't saw any sign of him. I shrugged. Maybe he had gone outside.
