Chapter 3

Isaac-

    Once mom came home everyone left but Jacki since she had to wait until Tyler and Jenna got off work. Jenna was working at Ulta and Tyler was working at some recording studio downtown. After a while Jenna came and got Jacki and Josh.

It was dinner time in the CapaSon/ Dun house which is always fun.

"If you don't want to starve to death come eat" Mom yelled

   I turned off my CD player and ran downstairs, pushing Hades out of the way.

"What the hell! " Hayden yelled

"Hades what did I say about swearing" Steve yelled sliding down the railing

"Steven what are you doing" Mom said coming out of the kitchen

"Yikes yikes yikes" Steve said 'moonwalking' away from her

"Not today Steven" She laughed grabbing his collar.

"Flyzik come on" I said to our very old dog who was sitting on the end of the stairs

    I picked him up and moved him to the couch before going into the kitchen. We all sat around the table and talked about our day, as your everyday American family would. As tradition to the first day of school Steve told the story of how him and Luke met.

"So I just see this scrawny mother fucker wearing a PVRIS shirt across the cafeteria and I just start belting out the lyrics to Fire" Steve laughs

"I hear him and start humming along but I didn't see him until I walk over to my normal table and he's sitting there, in an As It Is shirt" Luke grins at his husband

"He sits down next to me not even blinking and I go 'you're gay' and he turns bright fucking pink I said it as a joke since literally all PVRIS fans are gay" Steve laughs

"So I just sit there uncomfortably and introduce myself BY MY BIRTH NAME it to this day is the biggest mistake I've ever made" Luke laughed

"But you're so damn cute" Steve grinned kissing him

"Not at the table" I complained

"One day you'll have a boyfriend or girlfriend and you'll make out with them at the table" Luke grinned

   Steve then proceeded to get loud and sweary as a Steve does. Mom did her best to make him calm down but it never works. It wasn't a mean loud just a funny comedic loud.

"Fucking hell Steven go to your room" Mom yelled at him

    You could say that our family is a bit dysfunctional. When dad died Steve and Luke moved in to help out mom and never left. I didn't mind them living here, Steve just got out of hand sometimes. Luke was working at a theatre in Columbus until he finished writing his play and Steve had his own bar. I am still confused on how Steve is able to have his own business.

"Shit I forgot to show you guys this, this morning" Mom said getting up from the table and grabbing her laptop.

"Is it another video?" I asked nervously

"Yes, do you want to watch it you don't have to if you don't want too" She said nervously

"Mom calm down, I'm ready" I smiled

    Mom set up the laptop and put her chair behind Hayden and I's. Soon dad's face popped up on the screen.

"Hey guys, it's dad again. Well you obliviously knew that. You have made it through another summer congrats. Isaac sophomore year was the best year of high school for me. You are going to do great. Don't get too hooked on what your friends are doing, I love you buddy. I'm sorry I'm not there right now since these are the most important years of your life. I love you Ice" Dad said with a smile

     I couldn't even hear what he said to Hayden. I had tears welling up in my eyes and I ran up the stairs into my room. I turned on Kintsugi by Death Cab For Cutie and cried. Dad used to play this all the time. It's so weird I've been without him longer than I was with him so, why did this hurt so much? Not knowing what to do I called Jacki, when she didn't pick up I called Corey. Apparently every single one of my friends were busy. Without thinking I climbed out my window and carefully climbed down the house. I grabbed my skateboard from the open garage and skated as fast I could away.

  Without an idea of where I was going I ended up at the record store my dad used to work at. I began think about how when he was my age he would skate down here. Everything leads back to him. Why did he think doing that to us was better than being alive? It was almost dark when I realized I forgot my phone. I got on my board and stayed underneath street lamps. After 5 minutes of riding I saw headlights, it was uncle Luke.

I popped up my board and slowly walked to the passenger side.

"I'm sorry" I sighed bucking up

"Are you okay" Luke asked frantically

"Yeah, mom showed us a video from dad and after all these years I still don't understand why" I said tears forming again

"I don't understand either, no one does but it's not something we were meant to understand"

"How scared is mom?" I asked

"Once she realized you were gone her initial thought was that you were at the bridge"

"Fuck. I'm so stupid"

"Hey you're not stupid, maybe not the most logical but not stupid" At least he was honest.

The rest of the drive was silent, inheriting my moms shortness I swung my feet. I wasn't ready for the battle at home.

Immediately when I walked in the door I was enveloped into a hug.

"What the hell were you thinking Isaac Ronald!?" Mom yelled

"I wasn't I'm really sorry mom" I sighed

"Not even a text really! And you left your music on I thought you were still here!"

" I just needed to get out I'm sorry mom"

"You aren't going to the party Saturday and I'm glueing your window"

"Mom I have to go to the party this may be Quinn's best plan ever"

"You should have thought about that before you left. I was terrified out of my fucking mind I thought you were dead!" She yelled

"I said I was sorry what more do you fucking want from me. I get it I fucked up, I'm a fuck up. Everything about me is terrible I get it" I yelled before going upstairs.

Before I walked into my room I was pulled away.
