Uncle Jordan dropped me off at home and said he would see me soon, which meant not until Christmas. I unlocked the door and brought my bag up to my room before going down into the kitchen. I grabbed some chips and sat on the couch to watch some Criminal Minds. The more I thought about it, I realized I'm an exact clone of both of my parents.

My hands begin to sting making me realize my knuckles were still split. I went back upstairs, washed my hands up and wrapped them up. As any one would I pretended to be a boxer since it looked like I was taped up for a fight.

"Bam bam poosh" I said to the mirror

"I knew you were a dork but not this big of one" Hades laughed

"Jeez Hade you scared me" I said holding my chest

"What happened to your hands" she asked genuinely concerned

"I got in a fight but we can't tell mom ok" I said putting my pinkie out

"Why?"

"Because she'll flip out why else"

"No why did you fight someone"

"He made a shitty comment about dad and I flipped"

"What was he like? Dad." She asked nervously

"Let's go to my room" I smiled

The only times Hayden and I get along is holidays, anniversaries, and when one of us is hurt.

"He was amazing, just like the stories everyone tells" I said grabbing the photo album

"Would he have liked me?"

"Of course he would you're a lot like mom and you're his kid"

"Then why did he die before I was born, did he not want me" she said tearing up

"Don't say that Hayden, he was sick and he didn't think anything could help him anymore. He didn't want you to have to see him the way I did. Before he died we were playing video games and he just straight out passed out because he didn't have any motivation to eat and I was scared out of my mind. This little four year old kid just had his hero pass out in front of him and didn't know what to do"

"I wish I could have met him. It's not fair that everyone has met him but his own daughter." She said getting frustrated

"Hayden it's ok" I said hugging her

"No it's not Ice. I feel like I'm lying when I say that I love him because it's like he's never existed outside a fucking computer screen"

"What's sparked this"

"Everyone at school is like 'oh this summer me and my dad' or 'my dad and I' and people ask me and I'm like my mom and I and they think that they're divorced do you know how weird it is to have to tell people your dad is dead and that you never met him then they think 'oh he was in the military' I can't Isaac"

"My whole life Hay that's why I got in the fight today he was being a jerk to Carly and then said 'be careful with this one if you break his heart he might kill himself like his dad did' it's the most frustrating thing in the world Hayden"

We talked about dad for a bit more before Luke came home. She followed me back into my room and wanted to listen to dads old CDs, mom passed on to me. Kintsugi was the first in her list of albums to play. It seems that Kintsugi always means dad.

"Hey guys you want dinner" Luke asked opening the door

Hayden had fallen asleep and I was starving. I carefully got up off my bed to help Luke out. He was helpless in the kitchen. I made up some of the frozen Chinese food mom had gotten earlier that week. Luke and I sat at the table and talked about the day.

"What happened to your hand dude" He asked poking the gauze

"I was swinging my hands and accidentally hit the bricks at school" I lied

"You got to be careful dude" he chuckled

"Ya" I chuckled

We finished eating and I went back up to my room. Hayden was just waking up and was on her phone.

"Thanks Ice" she smiled before leaving the room

I laid down on my bed and thought about today. Thought about this week. I had met an amazing, smart, hilarious, beautiful girl and I probably freaked her out. I wouldn't blame her if she never talked to me again. I wouldn't.

I decided to text Corey to see what happened the rest of the day.

Me: hey Cor

My man Cor: hey dude you okay

Me: I guess. Are you guys mad at me

My man Cor: why would we be mad any of us would have done the same thing, maybe a little scared but not mad

Me: I'm sorry I didn't mean to do it is Carly okay

My man Cor: everyone is okay we explained what happened to your dad to her because she wouldn't leave it alone don't be mad at us

Me: no it's fine better you guys tell it I would have gotten mad again or cried

My man Cor: my dads calling me down for dinner I'll talk to you later don't worry everyone's okay and not mad we understand

Me: thanks Corey

I could hear the garage door open, which meant mom was home. Hopefully the school only called the house phone and not her cell. We are probably the only family in America with a house phone. Mom even though she wasn't born in the 90's thinks she's in them now.

"ISAAC RONALD DUN GET YOUR ASS DOWNSTAIRS RIGHT NOW" Mom yelled

I was in a shit ton of trouble I could already tell. Carefully I went down the stairs terrified of the momster down stairs.

"Why did you leave school with Uncle Jordan?" She asked me

"The office called me down and said I was being dismissed" I lied

"How did he even know where you went to school? Have you been talking to him?" She asked

"No mom I swear" I said surrendering my hands

"Wait a second why is the phone sideways" she asked "he was in the house wasn't he?"

"No mom we went and got ice cream and he dropped me off and didn't come in" I said defending my uncle.

"I swear he's the reincarnation of Houdini or some shit because I've never met anyone else who can come into somewhere unnoticed or puts a phone down like that" she said angrily going into the kitchen.

That was the last I saw or heard of her that night. Something really bad must have happened between everybody. They made it seem like Jordan was the worst person on the planet, he wasn't that bad.
