Breaking Ice

Chapter 9

  Everyone was sitting and basically staring at the door, waiting. This was concerning.

"Hayden honey go up to your room please" Mom said sadly

"Why?" Hayden asked stubbornly

"We need to talk to Isaac alone" Mom said glaring

"Anything you tell Isaac you can tell me, I'm tired of being left out of things" Hayden said crossing her arms

"Fine both of you sit" Luke said angrily

"What's going on?" I finally spoke up

Luke never has an angry voice.

"Why don't you tell us Isaac?" Ronnie said glaring at me

"I don't know what you're talking about" I said frustrated

"Really Ice, the cigarettes, the alcohol, the sneaking out, the drugs and fighting this isn't you" Mom said crying

"Yes it is mom it has been for the past year, you obviously haven't noticed" I yelled

"Don't yell at your mom" Ronnie said calmly

"How did you know I was even doing any of that have you been going through my room" I asked

"No I didn't have to someone who was at Quinn's party last night posted a video and tagged Steve in it who showed me it" Mom said

"What the hell" I said shaking my head

"Starting tomorrow you're switching schools, you won't have your computer and your phone will be for only when you leave the house do you hear me" Mom said angrily

"What about my friends mom, Luke help me out here" I pleaded

"I can't Ice" he frowned

"Yes you can you've told me my whole life that you would help me and be there for me. Was that just some big fucking lie to get me to tell you things?" I yelled

"Isaac you know that's not true, everything I do is for you! I give you advice I wish someone would have given me when I was your age. Honestly Isaac, I'm offended you would think that about me." Luke said angrily getting up

"Steve, you know that this will make me worse if you guys make me switch schools I'll only get worse. They all live down the street I can go see them any time and do exactly the same things I do now" I laughed

"Ice I was like you once" Ronnie sighed

"Ronz don't" Mom said tearing up

"No Ahme he is like me, I was like him in high school and then I stopped in college but then started back up again" He sighed

     That's basically how the afternoon went on. Mom argued with Ronnie about me being like him, while also yelling at me. Sure it's illegal to drink and smoke because of my age but I honestly didn't see the big deal. I explained the real reason why Uncle Jordan picked me up, she agreed with me being angry but not fighting.

     Tired of all the yelling Hayden and I sneaked up stairs. She followed me into my room and when I sat down on my bed, she gave me a hug.

"I'm sorry" she said tears filling up in her eyes

"No Hayden it's not your fault at all it's mine. I shouldn't be doing any of it" I sighed

"You're gonna lose your friends and Carly" she said looking up at me

"I know Hades I know" I said with a sad smile

    I made a group call with everyone and told them everything. They all felt really bad, even though it wasn't there fault. Jacki was in trouble too, apparently the person who tagged Steve also tagged Jenna. Corey's dad saw it too, as did Xavier's mom. Carly wasn't on the call though, she didn't pick up. Jacki hadn't heard from her either.

"Isaac come back down here!" Mom yelled

"We've decided that instead of making you switch schools that you'll be taking drug and alcohol tests once a week, randomly" Mom said crossing her arms

"Ok" I sighed it was better than switching schools

"You are so much better than this Ice, so much. I know it's hard not having dad around but this isn't going to help you at all, it will only make you worse" Mom said tearing up

"It's not about dad, mom not every bad thing I do is because of dad I do it because I want to do it and because it looks fun. Sure skating down to the record shop I do because of dad and that one fight I got into was because of dad but that's it. I don't smoke or drink because I miss him. It's hard to miss someone when it feels like you've never met them" I sighed turning around tears welling up in my eyes,

     I stormed up the stairs and into my room. I started playing Don't Panic! and crying so hard. I heard noises coming from outside but didn't bother looking up. All of a sudden there was a loud tapping at my window. Deciding it was time to check on it, it was Carly at my window makeup down her face. Opening the window she climbed in and squeezed me tight.

"What happened Carly" I asked moving the hair out of her face

"I'm sorry I'm so fucking sorry" she cried

"What do you have to be sorry for" I said

"I was drunk out of my mind last night and I posted the video and accidentally tagged everyone's parents when I meant to tag all of you" she cried

"It's ok Carly" I said smoothing her hair down

"How much trouble are you in?" She said sitting on my bed

"I just have to get drug and alcohol tests done but don't worry about it, what happened this morning" I asked

"I've never slept over anyone's house since my mom died and I was worried about my dad" she said

"I'm so sorry" I said

"I was 8 and it was my first sleep over ever and I got woken up early the next morning by my friends mom and said that I had to go home. My mom had a seizer from over dosing" she cried

"Carly I'm so sorry, that must have been horrible" I said hugging her tightly

Carly and I had more in common then I had thought. I knew it was just her and her dad but I never knew what happened to her mom. Maybe that's why she was so understanding of what happened between Bradley and I. We sat there for a while, we cried together. Luke opened the door to check on me but then noticed Carly and left.

    This was only the first week of school and it already seemed to be the worst year ever.
