Richard always loved having choices.
He always knew he wanted to be a superhero, but he did have to choose how he was going to pursue his dream. Throughout the four years he was in University, he became a superhero to children and family in need. He donated money and spent his free time in shelters. But after graduating, he still felt unsatisfied. Sure, he loved helping those in need, but Richard was still a kid at heart and he wanted to fight the bad guys. He wanted his own Avengers and Justice League! So after discussing the matters with his father and siblings, he took on the challenge and enlisted in the army.
He was flown to Zamboanga City and began his training there. After a year of hauling ass in combat training, he earned the respective title of Private First Class. Richard loved the rush that came with the job. He loved being out on the field even though his firearm was seldom placed in heart racing situations (he was borderline thankful and disappointed by this). But still, he was basically a superhero.Nicomaine also loved having choices.
Like when she was young, she was given the choice to follow her mother's footsteps and become a doctor, or her father's and serve in the army. She despised being in hospitals and was petrified of needles, but she kept her doors open (I'll have to get over my stupid fears somehow, right?). But after graduating university, Maine was proud to say she chose the latter.
She began her training in Manila, under her father (Colonel Mendoza) and grandfather's (General Mendoza) wing. She trained twenty-four seven, never missing a beat. On their supposed rest days, Maine would wake up bright and early to run five miles. Afterwards, she'd make her way to the set up courses and run them endlessly. At night, instead of sleeping, Maine would head down to the weight room and lift. She paced herself day after day, and it all paid off as she watched her obstacle time decreased while her confidence increased. She ranked first in her team, and the gaps between her promotions from one title to the next ranged from six to ten months. Just after two years of serving, she was promoted Staff Sergeant.
The day Nicomaine was re-stationed to the camp from Manila to Zamboanga City was also the day she met her universe. She saw him from afar, stretching and running obstacles and being on top of his game. She remembers turning to her friend, Sergeant Napoles, and asking him about the man because he so conveniently was in Jerald's squad.Hey Je, who's that one- uhm. Faulkerson, is it? she asked, covering her eagerness with a cough.
Yeah, that kid's basically Steve Rogers, he muttered while taking note of something on his boaard.
Steve Rogers? I'm thinking, the next Captain America. Je, do you see how buff he is? she stared in amazement. Sure she's seen her fair share of muscular men in the years she's served, but this Faulkerson was something else.
His arms aren't the only thing that's big. Jerald teased.
HE'S GAY?! Maine's eyes widened, and disappointment hinted at her voice.Fuck, no! That's not what I meant! What I mean is he's a good kid, alright. Has the biggest heart I know.
Maine tried her best to fight off the butterflies in her stomach, but they continued to flutter at the thought of this Faulkerson (her warrior, she decided she'd call him). It was as if he was the center of the earth, and gravity was pulling her towards him.
