Everything hurt. Her head. Her arms. Her thighs. And there was a distinct pain in between her legs that she's never felt before. What the hell happened last night? Why am I naked? Maine groans. She turns on her side and sees RJ with his lips slightly parted, snoring softly, just as naked as she was.
And all the memories of the previous night come crashing back in a wave of horror.
She sits up, stumbles backwards and topples off the bed. She feels her brain rattle in her skull.
She clutches her hair with both hands and mutters, "stupid! Stupid! Fucking stupid. What the fuck did you fucking do, Maine. Fuck."
RJ stirs. She freezes. She heaves a sigh of relief when he stays asleep. She slowly stands up, grabs the robe that was tossed on the bedpost, doing her best to ignore the circular bloodstain, stark against the whiteness of the hotel bed sheet. As silently and as quickly as she could, she starts gathering her things. When that's done, she puts on her clothes and hurriedly goes out the door.
He wakes up just as she's walking out of the room. His heart breaks all over again at the click of the lock as the door closes.
