THREE YEARS LATER
Maine is struggling to balance the shopping bags in her arms when her phone rings. She tries to get it out of her purse, neglecting to notice that she was about to bump into someone.
She drops several shopping bags.
"I'm so sorry!"
She looks up when she hears the familiar voice.
"RJ!"
"Maine!"
She's happy to note that there's absolutely no awkwardness when they hug.
"You look great, RJ! How've you been?" she asks him as she starts picking up the bags that she dropped.
"Here, let me help you with that. Good, good. Guess what?"
"What?"
"I'm getting married!"
"Ohmygosh!!!"
She gives him another hug as she jumps up and down with excitement.
"Congratulations! I'm so happy for you! When's the big day?"
"July 16."
"Malapit na! Are you excited?"
"Super! Hahaha. Pero wait. Ikaw kumusta? Anong balita sa'yo?"
"I'm good too. I just got promoted to assistant vice president. Same company pa din. So I'm celebrating with some well-deserved shopping before I go for drinks with some friends in a bit."
"Oh, wow. Congrats din! You deserve it."
She beams at him.
Just then, a woman taps RJ from behind. His face lights up when he sees who it is.
"Mahal! You're back. Come here, I want you to meet someone."
He pulls the woman's hand and puts his arm around her waist.
"Maine, meet my fiancee, Divina. Divina, this is Maine. Remember I told you about her?"
"Maine! It's nice to finally meet you! I've heard so much about you."
"All good things, I hope? Nice to meet you too, Divina. Congratulations on your engagement."
Just then her phone rings again.
"Oh, shoot. I really have to go. Maybe I could catch up with you guys some other time?"
"Of course," RJ replies, "go do your thing. Pero tumingin ka sa dinadaanan mo para di ka nababangga," he laughs.
"Sorry naman! Oo na. O siya. I'll leave you guys."
She gives RJ another hug.
"Divina, take care of him, okay?"
"I will."
