"Time to go, Nico." He says. They are by the beach. Nico is sitting, hugging her knees close to her chest. She is smiling as she watches the waves hit the shore, creating an eargasmic sound. For the first time since she found out that she has lung cancer, her heart feels light and free from worry. For the first time since she found out that Richard died, her heart is happy. For the first time, in the last five years, she smiled genuinely.
Nico stands up, dusts off her dress and looks at Richard. She beams at him, with him reciprocating the happy smile. They reach for each other's hands and intertwine their fingers together.
"It's time." She says. She turns her gaze towards the sea. She takes a deep breath, filling her lungs with fresh air and the two of them watch as the setting sun colors the sea with a bright, glistening orange.
