Maine is in a celebratory mood. She has finally found a new editor, who's willing to help her improve her stories. Richard also agreed to do the illustration for her new story book as well. It will be another visually impaired friendly book.
"We should have a party," she announced one night.
"Here? That's so lame. Why don't we just go out and have a few drinks?" Divina suggested.
"But Richard..."
"Is willing to house sit for the night. Go on and get ready."
Divina ushered her out of the house but before she could go out, Richard grabbed her wrist.
"You are not going with her."
While Maine recovered from her depression and slowly return to her passion: writing, Divina's countenance became darker. Even a blind man, pun intended, can see the dark energy swirling around her. She would be leaving the house more often and even resorted to locking Maine and him inside at one time.
There was a time when he knew Divina and Maine are both home, he visited his studio and found some of his paintings were destroyed. Even Maine's workstation was a mess. To protect Maine and not let her worry, he painstakingly fixed their work areas.
"As if you could stop me."
"I still do not understand why you can't just live peacefully with us?"
"You wanna know why? Because the two of you are weaklings! When her mother left her, she would have stayed on that side of the road and cried her eyes out if I wasn't there. Yes, I was that little girl she was with then. I helped her survive the streets and what did she do? She got herself a family and forgot about me because she has you.
"Now, after a little set back and she got depressed, what were you doing? Nothing! She needed me to get her back on her feet. But this time, I won't let her use me and be done with me like she did when her parents found her. This time, I'm taking the life that I should have had if she wasn't such a weakling. I will get rid of the both of you."
Pushing Richard away, Divina left the house to follow Maine.
They have only been in the bar for thirty minutes but Maine felt like they've been there all night. The place is definitely one that she would not voluntarily go to.
"Divina, let's go home."
Divina ignored her and ordered another drink.
"Stop drinking. I still have to drive home."
Maine tried to stop her but she already downed the shot.
"You're the one driving, I'm not."
"You know that's not how it works," Maine reasoned out but it all fell on deaf ears.
When the alcohol started to hit her system, Maine wrestled them out of the bar and into the car. She had driven them far enough from the bar when Divina came to and fought for control, wanting to turn the car around. Their struggle caused the car to swerve until it hit the tree. The airbag failed to launch but luckily, her seatbelt held but left her unconscious upon impact.
Sometimes, it takes an unfortunate event to unravel secrets that you didn't know you were keeping. When they do happen, you are given a choice to pretend nothing happened or deal with it.
