"Hey."
Maine was enjoying herself with a bowl of bulalo when her head perked up to see RJ in his hey-I-just-woke-up-but-you-know-what-I-still-look-banging state.
"I didn't wake you up 'cause you looked so comfortable in your sleep, I don't wanna disturb you. Hey, did you go to the restroom yet?" He just yawned in response as he turned his back on her and onto to the restroom. He came back a few minutes later, this time much more awake and with a cup of noodles in his hands.
"How many more hours?"
"Two, I think."
"Cool."
Maine was too hungry to even strike up a conversation. Kind of unusual since all she did was ate during the trip and while RJ was fast asleep, she snuck a few packs of candy bars from his bag. She should be full right now yet she didn't know why the hell was starving.
"How are you?" She heard him ask.
"I'm good, you?"
"Well rested and up for another story." He gave her a toothy grin to which she return with a shaking of head. "No way, Jose."
"My name is R—"
"What's your deal?"
"Excuse me?" He asked, obviously taken aback by the sudden change of wind.
"Come on. I mean, like who are you? Why are you doing this?" She inquired. She put her fork down, her attention now solely on him. She saw RJ stop and think, he didn't say anything for a few seconds before he returned her a shrug.
"I wanted adventure. Have fun."
"That's shallow. Sure, there must be some deeper aspect to it, you know? Like who would want to accompany a stranger to a trip he isn't familiar with? And it's not because of the 'I want adventure' crap, seriously I could be murderer for all you know!" She cried out, meanwhile RJ was looking at her in amusement. She gets so animated when she talks, her hands flying everywhere and her expressions were hilarious.
"Okay, first of all, wouldn't you have already killed me by know? I mean, this the perfect place to do it, actually far from people. And second, you're too pretty to be a murderer. And if by any chance, you are one, I'd be pretty contented having your face be the last thing I see before I die." She rolled her eyes at him.
"Flattery isn't gonna get you anywhere, but thanks anyways." She crossed her arms.
"Always a pleasure to pleasure." He said, smirking while he did a little bow.
"But you haven't answered my question yet. You know it isn't fair when the span of eight hours I've known you, you already got me to tell you basically my whole life story and frankly, I'm quite tired of talking."
"You really want to know?" He said in a teasing manner. "Would I ask if don't?" She retorted back, matching his tone.
"It's a pretty long story."
"Well it's a pretty good thing we're stuck with each other the whole night." She smiled at him because they both know he wouldn't get away with this. Not with her persuasive attitude and his submissive one.
Fact was, they really have only up until two hours. Maine still has no idea what she'll do once they arrive in Baguio and neither did RJ.
They spend a few minutes finishing their meals before they head back to the bus, just in time to leave. Maine opened a pack of M&M's, which she brought at the terminal, and offered some to RJ who was looking deep in thought.
