"Please, please let him be here."
Maine whispered her plea into the cold, empty air, but only silence and the stillness of the room responded to her request. She gripped the strap of her bag tighter between her fingers, and refused to open her eyes and find herself disappointed once again. She was on her toes as she rocked her body back and forth, swaying to the music she conjured inside her head while she waits.
"Please... show yourself."
The clock chimed to show the arrival of the next hour. She told herself that if he were to come, he would've already arrived as she has given him enough time. When she opened her eyes, Maine was greeted by her grandfather's name embedded in thick, black ink on the marble slab. She lifted her hand to caress his name and utter a small prayer, not only for him but also for the man she's waiting for.
"Lo, tulungan niyo po ako. Sana po nandito na siya."
She turned to her left, hoping fervently for a miracle but even her grandfather, who she believed was on her side didn't listen like God hasn't been to her during the past two years. The space next to hers remained empty, and the tall man with dark brown eyes, pale, pink lips and soft, angelic face was not there. He was still gone, and this would be the second time since he stopped showing himself to Maine.
"Nasaan ka ba? Akala ko ba isang taon ka lang mawawala? Dalawang taon na!"
Maine screamed as her tears finally flowed after holding it inside for the past couple of hours. She dropped listlessly to the ground, and the bouquets of flowers she bought fell to the ground. She stared at the space where he used to stand in front of his father's urn, and willed him to appear. Maine waited for another half hour when she finally realized in disdain that it was hopeless. She quickly wiped her tears with the back of her hand and stood up shakily. She waited long enough, and could no longer do it anymore.
"I'm done waiting for you, Richard."
