Chris
"Put the mask on," Jeremy yelled.
We all slipped our masks on in almost unison.
"Get out the car!"
Ray'vn stumbled out of the truck, hollering.
"He's not moving," she screamed. "Ray'vn we have to go," I yelled to her. "GO?! We just killed a kid!" "Ra' let's go!"
She stood there frozen staring at the little boy's body lying on the concrete.
The blare of sirens were getting louder. "Ray'vn," J croaked. No response. J moved toward her and grabbed her hand. He pulled her arm; Ray'vn fought. Now was not the time for this.
I could tell J was refraining himself from losing it.
Just before I could step in, Ray'vn's yelling and crying silenced. For the first time in his life, J laid his hands on a female.
"Unless you want to serve jail time for this shit, let's go!" He yanked the bag pack from her then grabbed two grenades. He pulled the pins with his teeth and launched them toward the oncoming feds. The police cars and whatever was nearby rose in flames.
"Chris, move the little boy."
I trembled as I picked up the little boy's limp frame and laid him down on the grass.
With another swift move, J began raising hell. He soared smoke bombs across the lot as a decoy and set the truck on fire.
"Run!"
Together we took off beyond the housing buildings in search of a safe haven.
Hours later...
After spending almost two hours in a dark alley, crooked in a garbage disposal, we'd gotten tired of the putrid smell.
When we got out, we stripped the clothes we were wearing and threw them in the bin.
J and I were in t-shirts and basketball shorts. Ray'vn walked around in my boxers and a sweater.
We walked through the streets, praying we wouldn't be recognized by anyone.
When we came upon a Chinese restaurant, we walked inside to get something to eat.
Ray'vn hadn't said a word since we left the lot. Jeremy had calmed down by now, but he too hadn't said anything. Zzzp, zzzp, zzzp.
J's phone vibrated on the table.
Jeremy
"Hello," I said when I answered my phone.
It was my Dad.
"Jeremy, where are you?"
"We're at some Chinese spot called Mai's Kitchen."
"Stay there. We're on our way."
He hung up.
