Ray'vn's P.O.V
When I stepped into the house the smell of baked chicken and cornbread filled my nose.
I headed for the kitchen where I saw Mom in her work clothes. "Hey Mom." She looked up from the stove and smiled.
"Hey baby. How was your day out with Ray and his sister?"
"It was cool." I continued telling her about my day and as I was getting to tell her about Ray, her phone rang.
She answered and spoke for a couple seconds then hung up.
She looked at the time then shut the stove off. "M-Mom I thought you weren't supposed to work today. You said that you had the next few days off." I stared at her confused, sad, and upset just waiting for her to say something back. "I know but they called me in to work some hours and it'd be nice to have some extra money. Ray'vn I'm sorry." Oh my god! Will ever really go a day without crying?
"No. No. It's fine, don't worry about it. Is Chris here?"
She looked sad that I changed the subject and I tried not to begin crying again. "Baby if you want me to stay I-I can." "No ma. It's okay trust me." I gave her a little smile and she returned it. "Okay."
I watched her grab her bags and stuff to head out. "Oh yeah, Chris is upstairs. When he came in I asked if wanted dinner and he said no. He said he'll get something when he goes to meet his Dad."
I nodded. Then it came to me; last night Chris had told me he has some stuff to do with his Dad tonight.
"Okay. I guess I'll just get dinner and hang out in my room." I walked over to the dish rack then the stove to make it seem like I was really getting dinner.
She said bye and gave me a kiss then rushed out. Two minutes later she was gone.
I set the plate back down. I stood by the stairs for a minute to make sure Chris wasn't coming down. I took down the keys for his car and opened the front door. I clicked the button on the remote for the doors to open.
Thank God the locks opened quietly without hearing the car beep.
I set the keys back on the hook and slowly walk out the house with little or no noise. I snuck into the backseat of the car.
Luckily Chris always has a black blanket in the backseat and I don't know why.
I peek out the window to see when he came out the house. When I saw him exit the house and toward the car, I ducked down on the floor and covered my body with the blanket.
The second the door opened and he hopped in the car, the smell of his cologne filled the car.
I was automatically hypnotized.
He drove for about ten minutes without realizing that I was there. Laying here was very uncomfortable but I started getting a bit sleepy. Before I knew it, I was knocked out.
I woke up to my phone vibrating in my pocket, making my head raise quickly. I hit my head on the seat. The car wasn't moving so I figured that we had stopped at a light or something.
I hoped that he wasn't in the car. When I looked up and saw that he wasn't, my heart rate slowed down.
Thank God.
