Ray's P.O.V

SWOOSH!

The football swished through the air 10 yards across the field into Rico's hands.

I sat on the grass, laying back gently staring at the stars. I listened as the evening breeze rustled through the trees. I felt as the breeze soothingly brush against my skin. I closed my eyes taking in the peace my mind and body endured.

"I wish you would do this more often," Rico said as he sat down beside me.

A shortened laugh, more like a hmph, was all he got. "Any call from her yet?" It was then the thought of her appeared in my mind. All I could see was her. Her short small body running all around laughing happily, doing cartwheels and somersaults up and down the beach. The smile on her face brought me the urge to cry.

I groaned and sat up as I took a deep breathe then forcing away the tears.

"No."

Rico's face saddened. He too sometimes had the look of a child from time to time whenever something was really bothering him. He stared at the grass, lost, twisting the football around in the ground.

"I think you should try calling her again Ray. Maybe she'll answer this time," Rico said trying to sound hopeful.

"I doubt it." He got aggravated by the thought, throwing the football, knowing she wouldn't reply to any of his texts or calls either.

"I hate this man. I really hope she's alright. She needs to come home! You really don't have any leads on where she could be Ray?" "You think if I had leads I would be sitting here Rico?! She hasn't been home in days. Not to mention school. Plus I haven't seen Chris come around either. His bitch ass would have to know where she is."

My blood now ran hot. The faint trembling of my nerves in my arm, creating the anxious feeling to lose my damn mind.

I can't continue to have my anger get the best of me like it has been.

I take another breathe.

"Ray," Rico pushed. "Call her again. We can't sit here still waiting for something to happen until she magically calls."

The both of us looked at each other, likely thinking the same.

As much as I knew he was right, part of me was still afraid to even hear her voice. We never fought before the way we did a few days ago.

I pulled out my phone to make the call. The search for her number wasn't very hard considering the fact that it's the only number I've called constantly in the past 48 hours. The only number I've arranged to now receive calls from besides my family, Rico, and her Mom.

I lightly tapped "Angel" with a heart and world emoji on my screen then let it ring.

I put it on speaker and set the phone on the grass.

Seven rings later, the lines connect but no one answers.

Silence devoured her end of the call.

I hesitated. "NeNe?"

A sniffle came seconds after I said her name. "Yes," she replied her voice now sounding as small as ever before. My heart jumped and the hairs on my arm rose. "NeNe, w-why are you crying? Where are you?" She sighed. "I-I'm somewhere. I don't know." I could hear how scared she was. "Bab-" I caught myself before letting the words slip my lips. "Ne what's around you? Can you give me some direction? Who's with you?" She took a deep breathe and I could tell she did it too stop herself from letting more tears fall from her eyes. She was now crying harder.
