Comfort. Security.

That's what Shawn's been giving me for the past couple hours.

It's around five in the evening.

"You feel okay?" I shook my head as it rested on his chest while I watched Dragon Ball Z. He stroked my hair.

I stood up and walked into the kitchen. Shawn followed behind. He reached over my head to grab a plastic bowl with chicken. I went for a bottle of water.

I leaned against the refrigerator watching him.

"You must have really good connections if they could get you so much stuff in only a few hours."

"This wasn't because of my connections. This is mine." "This place is yours?" "Yeah." "It doesn't look like your-" "I know. I wanted to do something different."

"Oh."

I stood there playing with the cap to my water bottle. I watched him as he maneuvered around the kitchen cooking. I walked over to the corner by the sink, hopping up to grab a seat.

As he moved around the kitchen to put finishin go touches on the meal he was making before letting it slow cook.

When he finished, he looked at me.

I looked down at my water bottle.

He walked away and went to sit back in the couch. I hopped off the counter, standingby the door frame of the hallway that lead to the room. "I'm gonna go shower." He shook his head.

I entered the room, searching through the suitcase of clothes that was there for me.

I found something comfortable to spend the rest of the night in.

After I'd finished showering and gotten dressed, I started to towel dry my hair.

I heard a loud noise of screaming, talking, and laughter coming from the living room. My hair was dry enough so I through the towel down and walked out. As I got closer to the room, you knew that the sound was coming from the TV. I stepped down into the living room where Shawn sat there with his eyes glued to the TV watching home videos and clips of pictures.

I sat down and noticed he had tears in his eyes.

It was hard to look at him.

I watched the videos.

A video came up of Chris' fourteenth birthday. I think it was just before we'd broke up. He used to always tell me he had dreams of being a basketball player. He'd say that one day he'd make more of an impact on kids and teens across the world more worthy and soul burning than any basketball legend ever has. That's why he plays basketball now.

In the video, he was in his room just before falling asleep. Shawn and his wife along with Chris' younger sister watched from the door recording the video as Chris opened a giant box on his bed.

He pulled out a glass case with an autographed basketball from his three favorite basketball players: James Harden, Stephen Curry, and Chris Paul. The case had a picture of each player installed in the sides with messages from all of them to Chris.

Shawn, his wife, and Chris' sister entered his room surprising him. He looked up and smiled as he read the messages.

He set the case down on the bed, digging through the rest of the box.
