Chapter 49: Tired of Heartache

"Well," I questioned. "Why am I here Shawn?"

He squeezed my hand that was tangled between his fingers. His head remained on the ground. We continued to walk with no specific destination at all, until Shawn decided to go back to the car. He went to open my door. I pulled my hand from his.

"I'm not going anywhere. Tell me why I'm here Shawn."

"Ray'vn please don't do this and cause a scene out here?"

"Why not?! Just tell me why I'm here!" "I can't tell you right now Ray'vn! This isn't the time or the place!"

"This is the time and it sure as hell is the right place. Stop hiding this from me and just tell me what's going on!"

He groaned loudly and punched the car door and walked away. I watched him stand there looking up at the sky. He turned back and looked at me.

His eyes! His eyes! They're changing color!

"They're trying to kill Chris," he croaked quietly.

"Excuse me," I asked raising my head.

He licked his lips, once again looking up to the sky as if to ask God why?

He walked closer and stood next to me.

"Do you remember what happened that night at the shop when you found out I wasn't dead?" "Yeah. Um, we had to... and... yeah but wh-what does that have to," he cut me off.

"Nino died that night Ray'vn. Lenny killed him. We all know that. But you know what the problem is? Nino was a joker. He was serious about his stuff because he had to be. He looked so much older but he was only twenty-seven."

"Okay? Shawn wh-" "Will you shut up and listen?!"

I moved away from him.

He took a deep breath.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry," he began. "Nino was a threat to us; he has been for years now, but he wasn't the main problem. His uncle is."

I wanted to ask why his unc-

"The word about Nino spread like wild fire and got back to his uncle. Nino was his only son because he couldn't have any of his own and his father had died in club brawl a years before until Nino's uncle took him into the business."

I was getting lightheaded from all this. I went to sit on a bench.

Shawn sat next to me.

"Nino's uncle has been trying to get rid of us for years because we took a lot of his business. We became his victims, but he made Nino handle it. Now that Nino's dead he's as mad as the devil himself, so he's trying to do the same to me... and Devon."

I slipped the blazer from my shoulders.

"He knows that Chris and J are my biggest assets besides Lenny, Devon, and myself. He wants to take them out as revenge to show how he feels about losing Nino."

"So why-" "You had to come here because that night at casino is when his uncle found out about you. You think there wasn't a million hidden cameras around that room watching us? His uncle knows about you and Chris. Chris has never been serious about any girl but you, Ray'vn. Nino's uncle knows how much Chris loves you that's why he tracked you guys down at the restaurant earlier."
