Clanswoman Althea Ross doubled over in pain, a hand held tight to her swollen stomach while the other was pressed against a nearby tree for support.
'Marck!' she called out weakly when the pain had subsided.
'Yes?' her husband asked, walking up to her.
'It's coming.'
Those two words were enough to instil a little fear into Marck's heart, yet his mind worked with the details.
His wife was about to give birth to their first child, and they were four hours walk away from their village.
He began leading Althea towards a nearby creek. Though he knew little about childbirth, he knew it involved lots of blood and pain. He was prepared to do whatever was necessary to help his wife.
