Zan led Liat and Emerson to his hut, one of those circling the clearing.
'You know, Liat,' Zan began as he sat at the table. 'You never liked to sit at a table. You would always find a corner and sit there.'
Liat smiled.
She remembered those times.
Zan returned the smile.
Then Zan's thoughts roamed into the reason that Liat was his daughter.
'You mentioned that your blood brother was dead? Did you find your family?'
Liat's smile faded, replaced by an expression of grief.
'Yes,' was all she said.
