Rogue Zan Axton was patrolling the edge of the Rogue village with his bow in his hand when he heard a strange sound. It was not a sound usually heard among the trees.
It was a soft mewling.
He stepped forward, placing his feet carefully in order not to frighten the creature.
Peering around a tree, he allowed his eyes to adjust to the gloom. He found a newborn girl at the base of the tree.
'Who would leave you here?' he asked himself, scanning the trees for the child's parents.
Finding no one, he leaned his bow against the tree and he picked up the blue-eyed child. 'I guess I'll just take care of you till someone asks about you.'
Heading out of the trees with the child in his arms, he looked down into her innocent face. 'I'm going to name you Liat. You are mine.
