Zan noticed a girl break from the ranks of the attacking posse.
He saw her heading towards Liat.
He saw the look of fear enter Liat's eyes.
He slipped after the girl, ducking behind his hut in order to remain unseen.
'You traitor,' he heard the girl's accusation, her voice laced with anger and ice, imagined the sword she had carried held in a threatening way towards his daughter.
'If you knew you'd be killed without mercy, you'd defect too, Delta,' Liat replied calmly.
'I think you underestimate me,' Delta's voice lacked compassion, betrayed the girl's condescending nature.
Zan began to move, sensing that this confrontation would not last much longer.
He held his sword in front of him, and cut at the girl's right arm, hoping that it was her dominant hand.
He was wrong.
The girl spun, the sword held in her left hand.
