'I'm so sorry to hear that, Liat.'
'You don't mean that,' she retorted bitterly.
'Liat, I do mean it,' Jedi assured her.
His mind raced.
How could he prove to her that he was sincere?
'Prove it,' she whispered. 'Prove to me that you care about someone you never met.'
Jedi closed his eyes against the force of her whispered words.
'I care, because I want to end the war. I always have.'
'Why?' Liat's anger had dissipated.
'The war has been fought for years. It's been going on for so long that no one really knows why we're still fighting. People keep dying, yet no one wants to surrender,' Jedi spoke passionately.
'Then let's end it,' Liat leaned forward, beginning to smile.
