Jasper

"Daddy, where's momma?" I ask as just he walks in the door.

"Mom is at the doctor's, bud. We're gonna go see her after dinner," he smiles.

I furrow my eyebrows. "But— but that's so far away! I still have to eat breakfast!" I shout.

He chuckles at my outburst. "I know, baby boy. Just listen to me, okay?" I nod quickly. "They had to put your Mommy to sleep for awhile. She won't be awake for a whole nine hours. That's a lot, right?" I nod again. "Then," he lifts me up, "we can go see her."

I lean my head on his shoulder. "It's a Daddy and Jasper day?" I ask quietly.

"It's a Daddy and Jasper day," he repeats. "How about I give you a bath and then we can go out to eat? Walk around the city for a bit?"

A smile creeps onto my lips. "I's so excited!" I exclaim when he sets me down.

I run to my suitcase that has all my clothes. "You're just like your mother," daddy laughs.

I pull out my clothes. "Lets see," I tap my chin. "Dino?" I hold up the shirt. Daddy nods. "And blue pants?"

He shakes his head. "If you're gonna wear that shirt, try wearing green pants or jeans."

I pull out some jeans. "All done!"

"Underwear?"

I gasp before pulling out some Blue's Clues underpants. "Now I'm all done," I giggle.

After my bath, Daddy orders us some pancakes and cupcakes from room service. He plays my favorite movie, The Incredibles. We finish off our pancakes ten minutes after they arrived. We leave the cupcakes on the table in front of us so we can eat them later.

"Come here, Jasp," Daddy opens his arms to me. I crawl into his lap, resting my head against his chest. "Wanna go lay in my bed?"

I nod, wrapping my arms around his neck as he stands up. Once we're settled and cuddled up, he speaks up again.

"We can go see mommy after dinner, okay? She just can't come back with us yet," he tells me.

I furrow my eyebrows. "Why not?"

"Well," he clears his throat. "She's having a surgery which means the doctors need to keep an eye on her for at least one week."

"And den we go back home?"

He shrugs, "I don't know yet. There are some loose ends your mom wants to tie up around here before we go back. But we have to talk about something else," he rubs my back.

I move closer to him. "What is it?" I mumble tiredly.

"When mommy comes back, she's going to be acting like a baby. I'm going to have to split my attention between taking care of both of you when I'm not working," he explains. "We both wanted to make sure you're okay with that."

"I's otay wif that," I yawn. "Us sleepy now?"

He nods, kissing my forehead. "Yes, baby boy. Goodnight, little man. I love you."

I hold onto my Dad's leg as he talks to the hostess. She grabs some crayons along with a menu for me and Daddy. "Come here," he lifts me into his arms.

"I wan sit on you lap," I whisper, clinging to his shoulders.

He sits down with me on him. "Are you okay, buddy?" I nod, leaning my head on him. "You feel sicky at all?"

"No," I grumble, "I'm just tired."

He kisses my forehead. "How about when we finish dinner and dessert we get something to go for momma?"

I giggle, nodding at his question. "I miss her," I say as a lady comes over to our table.

"Me too, bud. We can go see her when we're finished eating," he kisses my head again before looking up at the lady.

"Can I get you guys some drinks?" She pulls out a notepad. "We have lots of juices, little guy."

"My mommy likes orange juice. I want that," I tell her.

She smiles before writing it down. "That's so cute. And for you, sir?" She looks at daddy.

He rubs my back as I lean my head against his shoulder again. "Can I get a water?"

"Of course," she replies, "I'll be back with those in a few minutes."

"What do you want to eat?" Daddy asks me.

I look at the pictures on his menu. "That!" I point at the brown thing.

"Steak? How about I get you some grilled cheese and you can have some of my steak," he chuckles.

I think about it for a second before nodding. "Yeah," I smile. "Is it good?"

"It's very good. I used to bring your mom here every Saturday and we'd both get a steak."

We ate our food as Daddy told me lots of stories from before I was born. They were very funny and some were sad, but that's okay because it's over. We ordered Mommy some of what Daddy had and french fries. We got her a brownie, too.
