"NO, MOMMY, NO!" Carson shouts at me.
I sigh tiredly and nod. "Baby, it's okay. See? You know me, you know I'm Mommy," I sit down next to him. I place my hand on his small shoulder. He hits me as hard as he can in my abdomen. "Ow," I mumble as I retract my hand and place it where he hit.
"Hey," Jason scolds, "you don't hit Mommy."
I shake my head. "It's fine, Jace. You can reprimand him later when he isn't in the middle of a break down," I roll my eyes. He huffs, sitting on the couch in front of me.
Carson covers his ears, closes his eyes and curls into a ball on the floor with small groans. "What's wrong with him?" Jason worries out loud.
"He... He's calming himself down," I stare at my son.
"Why'd he start throwing a fit?"
"Do you remember how I said I had to start working again soon?" He just nods. "One of the girls from work came to drop off notes from the meetings I missed and some stuff the board wants me to work on. She tried to talk to him and he got uncomfortable," I explain.
"How long has he been doing this? Is it just new people?"
I nod, "sometimes. He's been doing this his entire life, it's part of the autism."
"Great, I have a retarded son," he scoffs, rubbing his face with his palms.
"Take that back or so help me God, I will kick you to the curb with no remorse."
He raises his hands in defense. "Calm down, babe. I take it back, damn."
I shake my head in disapproval. "He is your son, Jason, you don't call him a retard," I snap.
Carson lifts his head to look at me. He puts his hand up with his fingers spread apart, by still emitting small groans. I smile sadly and press my hand against his. "M-Momma," he whimpers.
"Yes, baby?"
"C-Can I-I... I-I'm sl-sleepy," he mumbles.
A sigh of relief pushes past my lips. "Okay, Bubba. Do you want to walk up to your bedroom or have Mommy carry you?"
He pulls his hand away from mine. "I-I-I wa-walk..." he whispers.
"Kiss?" He shakes his head and slowly walks up the stairs. Tears slowly build up in my eyes. "My poor baby," I lay flat on my back on the floor.
Justin
I grab the phone off the hook to speak with the woman on the other side of the glass. "I'm so glad you came," I chuckle nervously. "I miss you, honestly."
She rolls her eyes. "What do you want? I only have ten minutes," she murmurs as she avoids looking at me.
"I just want to start with an apology. I know you can probably never forgive me, but I'm sorry, for everything." We're both silent for a few seconds. "Are you happy? In general, I mean."
She nods, finally taking a glance at me. "I am. Leigh and I are having a baby and Jason is finishing the in-law housing in the basement for us so we don't have to move out," Kinsley tells me.
"That's good- that's great. I thought you and Leigh were getting married?"
"We are," she nods, "after the baby is born. He is going to be our ring bearer in a couple of years."
"I thought you wanted to get married right away," I furrow my eyebrows.
"I see myself with her forever, I can wait until she's comfortable in her body again."
I look down to my lap. "You didn't see forever with me," I mumble out.
She shakes her head. "No, Justin, I didn't. Because deep down I knew you would leave me for the next girl who have you attention."
With that she stands up, places the phone on the hook and walks away. I groan to myself, putting mine on the hook also. "Guard," I stand up. He cuffs me and brings me back to my cell.
