Kinsley

"So Jasper thinks that Jason still hits her?" Leigh clarifies. I nod, humming my reply. "What would make him think that? Do you think he still does?"

"I don't think he wouldn't," I shrug. "I think if she pissed him off enough, he'd hit her." My phone rings throughout the car. "Hey, Nes," I answer.

"We- We're gonna s-stop for some food," she stammers.

"Everything okay?"

"Perfect, we're gonna go to the rest stop at the next exit, the kids want McDonald's."

Leigh whispers, "something's wrong."

"Are you okay, Nezther?"

"Of course, see you then."

She hangs up. I furrow my eyebrows. "Do you think–"

"I don't want to say what I'm thinking," Leigh chews on her nails. "I'm gonna ask her to ride with us."

We pull into the rest stop halfway between Malibu and Los Angeles. "Hey," we wave as they come walking up to the entrance. "You okay?" I rub Nezther's arm.

"Fine," she pushes past us.

Jason carries Carson as Jenny and Gracie follow him into the building. Jasper stops in front of us. "He hit her again," he mumbles. "He thought we were sleeping and she was too. She didn't want to wake up so he smashed her head against the window to get her up."

"I knew it," Leigh mumbles.

"Come here," I wrap my arms around her. "She probably took the girls to the bathroom. We can go talk to her now."

Jasper goes into the men's bathroom to find his father as we go to get Nezther. She's washing her hands with tears streaming down her face. "Nes?" When I call her name, she jumps.

"What?" She sniffles.

I bend over to make sure no one else is in the bathroom. "Jasper told us what happened," I murmur.

"He saw?" Her eyes go wide. "He must be so mad at me, I should've woken up when Jason told me to," she starts crying.

Leigh wraps her into a tight hug. "He's not mad at you, he's mad at Jason for putting his hands on you again," she says softly.

"How about you ride the rest of the way with us? We'll take the girls too and have some girl time."

She nods, pulling away from my fiancée to wipe her eyes. "Yeah, let's do that." She uses paper towel to dab her face. "So can I tell you something that doesn't leave this bathroom?"

We both nod. "Of course, is it bad?" Leigh rubs her little pregnant belly.

"It depends on how you look at it. From my point of view, it's horrible."

"What is it?"

"I think I'm pregnant again."

Jason sits with the twins across from us. Jasper sits between Leigh and I and Carson sits in a highchair at the end of the table.

"Open," Nezther tries to place a French fry in his mouth. He shakes his head stubbornly. "Carson, please, Mommy's tired and I'm not in the mood to fight you. Just eat the damn fry." He huffs but opens his mouth.

"So I was thinking Nezther and the girls can ride with us to have some girl time," I say to Jason.

The scowl stays on his face. "That's a good idea!" Gracie cheers.

"Whatever," Jason rolls his eyes. He focuses back on his food.

Nezther sighs heavily. "Babe," she reaches for his hand. He just stares at her hand. "Okay, never mind then," she grunts.

"You have no right to be pissed right now," he snaps.

"Yes, she does!" Jasper screams at him. "You're lucky she isn't dead!"

Jason turns his head to his wife. "What the fuck is wrong with you? Why would you tell him that?"

"I SAW IT!" He stands up in his seat.

"Sit down, Jasper," I grab his hand.

People stop what they're doing and look at us. "Jason–" Nezther starts.

"No," he cuts her off. "I don't want to hear it."

Tears stream down her face as she stands up. "You're the one who wanted another baby, so I think you should hear it," and with that she walks off.

Jason's eyes go wide as he looks between us. "Did you two know about this?"

"She just told us," I snap.

He stands up and jogs to the door. "I don't want him to hit her again," Jasper whispers.

Leigh wraps her arm around him. "He won't, they'll come back in a few minutes," she kisses his cheek when he sits down.
