Jason - Two years later
"Daddy!" Gracie squeals as she runs to me.
I look down as she grabs my legs and rubs her face against them. "What's up, Soldier?" I lift her up.
"Kinny's gonna get me," she whispers.
I kiss her cheek. "Don't worry, baby. I won't let her."
"AHHHH!" Jasper and Jenny run into the room with Kinsley behind them.
I lift Jasper up onto the counter before picking Jenny up. "Leave my babies alone!" I hold them all close to me.
"But I'm the tickle monster," she reaches to tickle Jasper.
He shrieks, leaning against me. He wraps his arms around my neck. "Daddy!" He screams.
He latches himself to my chest. "Run!" Jenny instructs me. I jog into the hallway, going into my office on the main floor. I set all the kids in and close the door. "Good idea, Daddy, she'll never find us here."
The kids get behind my desk. The front door opens. "Kin, what're you–" Leigh starts but Kinsley must've cuts her off.
All of a sudden, the door busts open. "Where are they?" Kinsley scans the room. "I must tickle to live."
"NO! KINNY CAN'T DIE!" Jasper jumps out. The girls follow and tackle Kinsley to the ground. "I love you, Kinny," Jasper kisses her cheeks.
"I love you too, Jasp," she giggles.
Leigh walks out of the office. I sit down at my desk. I look at the photograph of Nezther and I, making me sigh. "You miss her, don't you?" Kinsley looks up at me.
"Mhm," I reply.
Just as she opens her mouth to say something, my wife walks in. "Talking about me again?" She smirks.
"How'd you get home? I was supposed to pick you up in an hour!" I jump up from my chair.
She giggles as I wrap my arms around her. "Abel picked me up so I could surprise you," she kisses my cheek.
"Is he here?" She nods, and Leigh and Abel walk in as if they were cued. "How was the conference?"
"It was so boring," Nezther sighs. "So happy I'm home," she kisses my lips.
I keep my arms around her. "Me too," I whisper.
Abel speaks up. "Nes, the stuff you wanted is on the counter."
"Oh yeah!" She exclaims. She pulls away from me and grabs my hand. "Come with me, babe."
"But, mommy!" Jenny whines.
"I'll be right back, babies." She kisses each one of their heads. She grabs a bag from the kitchen and pulls me into the bathroom. "I missed my period," she whispers.
I look down to see her holding a box of pregnancy sticks. "Well, what're you waiting for!? Let's see if we're having another baby!" I grin at her.
Five minutes later, the timer dings. Nezther looks at me expectantly. "You look, I don't want to," she turns her back to me.
I look down at the sticks and frown. "Nes," I whisper. She turns around and her face drops when she sees mine. I suddenly pull a grin to my lips. "WE'RE HAVING ANOTHER BABY!" I lift her up by her waist.
She smiles, looking down and her hair falls around us as she kisses my lips. There are a whole bunch of knocks on the door. I set my wife down and open the door. "Mommy!" The kids run in.
Nezther drops to her knees and hugs them all. "My babies," she whispers. "I love you guys," she kisses their cheeks. "Guess what?"
"What?" Jenny and Jasper look up at her.
"Mommy's having another baby," she grins at them.
Gracie wiggles out of her grip, walking out of the room. I furrow my eyebrows and follow her. "Come here, Princess," I lift her up. I walk into the living room. "Why'd you walk away? What's wrong?"
"Jaspy and Jenny don't like me and you's going to have another baby who doesn't like me," she whispers.
I kiss her forehead. "They love you, baby. You're just–"
"I'm different," she mumbles. "They no like me because I no talk to anybody but you an' momma."
I tuck a piece of her blonde hair behind her ear after setting her down on the couch. "That's okay though, Soldier. You're just like your mommy is," I kneel in front of her.
"But mommy talks to them and Kinny and Leigh."
"It's just going to take you a little while to be comfortable, baby. Mommy and Daddy want to make sure you're comfortable with everything before you push yourself to talk to someone else."
She frowns, looking down at her lap. "Scarlett says I'm a freak," she whispers.
I furrow my eyebrows. "Your babysitter?" She nods. "We'll get you a new babysitter, okay?"
"Actually," Nezther walks into the room. "Mommy is going to be home for awhile. You can all stay home."
"NO!" Gracie screams. "I TALK BETTER THAN JASPER AND JENNY BUT THEY CALL ME NAMES! I DON'T WANT TO LIVE HERE ANYMORE! I WANT A NEW FAMILY!"
We both watch in shock as she runs upstairs. Everyone else walks into the room. "What happened?" Kinsley asks cautiously.
Tears stream down Nezther's face. I stand up and wrap my arms around her. "She said she wants a new family," I murmur. "She doesn't want to live here anymore."
"What? Why?"
"Yeah, why?" Jasper furrows his eyebrows.
"My baby," Nessie cries. "My little soldier. My underweight, overly intelligent, babygirl doesn't want to be here anymore."
I slightly rock side to side. "Shh," I kiss her head. "Just give her a few minutes to calm down."
"I'll go," Jasper runs upstairs.
