Carson lays in my lap with his head resting against my breasts. My phone starts to ring so he hands it to me, groaning that his game was interrupted. "Hello?" I answer as I rub my son's back.
"Hi, may I speak with Mrs. McCann?"
"This is she," I furrow my eyebrows.
"Hi, Mrs. McCann. I was told to inform you that Justin Bieber has been moved to maximum security and his trial will be postponed until July nineteenth."
"July nineteenth!? That's three months away!"
"Please calm down, ma'am. He had a physical altercation with another inmate and has been moved. The judge saw this and postponed his trial for your safety. Good day to you," and the woman hangs up.
I toss my phone to the coffee table just a few feet away. "Ma," Carson climbs up me and buries his face into my neck.
I wrap my arms around him. "Yes, baby?"
"S-Sorry."
"For what?"
"I-I made y-y-you sad a-and n-n-no... no kisses," he murmurs.
I lean my head against his. "It's okay, Bubba. I promise, it's okay," I whisper. He falls asleep like this, and I must've also because I wake up to Jason's voice.
"Nes? Baby, wake up."
I open my eyes, Carson gone and Jason in front of me. "Wh-Where's Carson?" I sit up quickly.
"He's safe," my husband places his hands on my knees, "it's alright. He's taking a nap in his room. He's safe and sound." I nod, leaning back so my body relaxes. "Did you have a nice nap?"
I shrug, "I guess so. What time is it?"
"It's one-thirty, babe. Leigh came home because she got sick at work and she wanted to talk to you a little."
I jump off the sofa. "Why didn't you lead with that!?" I hurry up to Leigh's room. I push the door open to see Leigh laying on her bed with her arm over her eyes. "Leigh?"
She looks up at me. "I feel horrible. I just want this damn thing out of me," she groans.
I laugh a little bit. "The pool helps you when you're not feeling well, do you want to go for a swim? I'll go with you," I offer.
A little while later the kids came home and joined us in the pool. Gracie sat on the edge, complaining of her heart bothering her. Jason sat on the edge with her.
I swim over to them. "How do you feel, baby? Do you want me to hold you?" I reach up to her.
She shakes her head stubbornly. "It hurts a lot, Mommy. I'm scared," she whimpers.
I look up at Jason to see a worried look on his face. "Alright, love, I'll get out and we can go to urgent care," I push myself up on the edge and out of the water.
Jason picks up our daughter, making sure Leigh is okay with watching the kids for a little while. Carson screams that he wants to get out, wanting to come with us. I take him from Leigh and go into the house. Carson and Grace change in their own rooms.
"Mm, you should wear that around the house," Jason pulls me into his arms.
"Nothing?" He nods, pressing his lips to mine. I pull away, patting his chest. "Sorry, Chief, our daughter needs us."
I quickly slip on clothes and watch as Jason does. "What?" He chuckles when he sees me staring.
I shrug, "nothing. Just looking."
He smirks as we start down the stairs. We make our way to the kids' rooms. Gracie lays unconscious on the floor with her favorite stuffed animal in her arms. Immediately, I emit an involuntary sob as I run to pick her up. I scream my husband's name as I run down the stairs.
I take Gracie out to my SUV where Carson is buckled in and Jason is in the driver's seat. I get in the passenger seat and hold my baby to my chest.

Carson sits on my lap, I lean against Jason's shoulder. Jason wraps his arm around my shoulder to hold me close.
We sat like this for two hours before a nurse came to us.
She kneeled in front of us. "They're doing their best, Mr. and Mrs. McCann, I assure you that. Here are some tickets for the cafeteria, you get get one thing with each ticket. Go get something to eat while you wait."
Jason takes them from her hands. "Thank you," he mumbles. She nods before standing up and walking away. Jason counts nine tickets. "Do you want me to go get you something?"
I shake my head. "We'll go with you," I sniffle.
"Here, you take these and I'll take him."
Carson reaches out to his father. Jason takes him and hands me the tickets. "D-Da-da... I-I wan-wanna c-cook-cookie," he says as we enter the café.
"Which kind, Bubba?"
"The brown one, please."
I grab the Double Chocolate cookie. "You need to eat something else, too," I murmur.
He picks out a piece of pizza. Jason and I get sub sandwiches. We all sit at an open table and eat quietly. Jason wraps his arms around me as I eat slowly, he pulls me into his chest. "It's okay, babygirl. Everything is going to be okay. And god forbid if it isn't, we'll make it okay. We'll be okay, I promise," he kisses my head.
I set my sandwich down and sigh heavily. I nuzzle my face into his neck and start bawling. Carson climbs into my lap and hugs me as best as he can. I cry against my husband until I'm out of tears.
The same nurse from earlier walks over to us as Jason helps wipe my face off. "She's stable but... but she's in a coma, I'm sorry. They can't wake her up, but they got her vitals stable. I'm so sorry."
"Can we see her?" I choke out.
Jason rubs my back. The nurse nods, "of course. Come with me."
