Jason

I watch as Nezther runs her hand over the scar on my bare chest. "I remember that night like it was yesterday," she whispers.

"Me too," I shift so she stops touching it.

Unfortunately, she catches on. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing, just stop touching it."

"Why?"

"Because I said so!" My voice booms throughout the room.

She shrugs, removing herself from me completely. Nessie turns so her back is to me with a grunt. I push the blankets off of me and walk into the living room area. I unlock the french doors to the balcony, I step out and close the doors behind me.

I did that because of her. I told Kinsley that it was because she lost the baby, but it wasn't. It was because I wanted something I couldn't have.

But you have her now, my subconscious tells me.

I reach up and wipe my tears off my cheeks. "I have her now," I say out loud. I nod to myself before walking back into the room. I relock the doors and rush into my bedroom. I open the door. "Nes?" I call out. I move the blanket away from her face. "Baby," I whisper as I wipe away her tears.

She pushes my hands away. "Don't touch me," she mumbles.

"I did it because I couldn't have you," I admit outloud, for the first time. She opens her eyes to look at me. "It wasn't because Kinsley lost the baby, it was because I couldn't have you." Again, Nezther puts her back to me. "I've loved you since the beginning and I'll love you until the end. I'm sorry for yelling at you." I stand up and sit next to her.

She turns to lay on her back. Nezther doesn't look at me, but instead focuses on the ceiling. "Are Kinsley and Jasper sleeping?" She asks softly.

"Yeah," I lay down next to her. "Why?"

She turns on her side to face me. Her gentle hand lies on my face, making me turn to kiss her palm. "I don't want to fight, Jason," she whispers. "But I don't want to just let this go. We can talk in the morning, yeah?"

I nod, pulling her body closer to me. "Yeah, baby," I kiss her forehead. "I love you."

"I love you too," she whispers.

Nessie tucks her head into my neck. I slide one arm underneath her, pressing both palms against her back. "You're so beautiful," I smile into the darkness. "You make me so proud, Princess." A small giggle leaves her lips. "Is my baby laughing? Hmm? Did Daddy say something funny?"

"Yes," she laughs.

My grin spreads from ear to ear. "I did?" I move her off of me. She lays on the bed, laughing as quietly as she could. I move to hover over her. "I did?" I repeat.

"Daddy," her baby voice shows through.

I bring one hand up and start to tickle her side. "What, baby?" I smirk down at her.

"Daddy, stop!" She attempts to push my hands away. "Stop," she whines.

I stop my fingers, leaning down to have my nose touching hers. "My baby is going to have surgery tomorrow," I frown.

Her fingers find their way into my hair. "Don't be sad," she whispers. I kiss her cheek, down her jaw. "You's have Jasper."

I move my lips down her neck. "But I want my cbaby," I sigh. "I haven't gotten my baby in years."

"Daddy missed me," she smiles.

I nod, lifting my head to look into her eyes. "Of course I did, babygirl. I always enjoy taking care of my baby."

"But Jasper is the baby now."

I pull my legs up so I'm straddling her waist. "My poor girl," I whisper as I caress her face. "You feel like you can't be the baby now that we have one, don't you?" She nods, looking away from me. "Use your words, babe."

"Yes, Daddy."

I frown, moving to sit next to her. "Come sit with Daddy, Princess," I pat my lap. She slowly climbs onto me. I loosely wrap my arms around her waist as her hands sit on my shoulder. "You will always be my baby. It doesn't matter if we have one child or twenty. I will always take care of you and you are always gonna be my baby." She lets out a low hum and nuzzles her face against my neck. "My baby," I rub her butt gently.

She leans against me more, letting out a heavy breath. I pat her bum, attempting to soothe her to sleep.

"My baby needs a break, huh? You need a break babygirl?"

"I's do, Daddy."

I nod, taking in Nezther's tired tone. "Yeah, babe, I know. After you come home from your surgery, you can be a baby all you want. Daddy will take care of both you and Jasper," I whisper.

I hold her against me tightly as I continue to pat her butt. Her breathing eventually slows down, signaling that she's asleep now. I kiss her head and lean back against the headboard. I eventually drift into a dreamless sleep.
