The door opening makes me sit up quickly. Daddy helps Momma into their room. "Daddy," I jump up. "Where did you go?"
"I had to bring Mommy to the doctor's," he brings her into the bathroom.
I follow them in. "Why? Momma, you okay?"
"I'm perfect, Jasper!"
"Daddy–"
"Please go back and lay in my bed, Jasp."

Mommy holds Jenny to her chest as she feeds off of her. "Momma?" I walk into Jenny's room.
She looks up. "Hey, baby. What's up?"
"Why Daddy say you's gonna leave us again for a long time?"
She sighs heavily. "It'll only be for one week, baby. Mommy has to get something fixed in her brain," she tells me quietly.
"Why?"

"Because she does. Leigh wants you, Jasper." Jason stands in the doorway. Our son dashes out. "How're you holding up?"
I shrug, "I'm nervous. Do you know how many surgeries I've had? Now one on my brain? I don't know," I sigh heavily.
He nods, walking over to me. He kneels next to the rocking chair. "I'm not going to promise you everything is going to be okay, because I don't know that. But I'm going to be here every step of the way, baby. I want you to know that. Kinsley and Leigh are going to be here for you. I–"
"What if there's no one to be there for?" I snap. "What if it doesn't go in my favor, Jason? Then what? Then I die and my kids are left motherless?" Jenny pulls her mouth off my nipple. I lift her up to burp her. "Then what happens, Jason? What happens if you go into a depression and god forbid you can't get out of it? Then the kids don't have a father either?"
Jason stares at the ground. "I tried to come in here and make you feel better but you decided to make me feel like shit. When you're ready to talk, let me know," he pushes himself up.
Once my daughter burps, I set her in her crib for a nap. I make my way up the stairs to my room. Jason sits at the desk on his side of the room, a photo album open as he stares down at it. Gracie sits in his lap.
"Isn't she beautiful?" He sighs heavily. "She's so silly too. She completely lights up the room when she walks in, much like you kids are going to when you're older. You light up my world, do you know that, baby?"
The infant babbles in reply. He chuckles, leaning down to kiss her head. "Jace?" I whisper.
He looks over. "Hi," he turns back to the book.
I walk over to him. "What're you looking at?" I place my hand on his shoulder.
"The book I have of you," he murmurs. I look at the two pages with four pictures on them. "These are my favorites."
