Jasper

"Moooooooooooom!" I whine as I get off the couch.

"Yes, Jasper?" She giggles from the kitchen.

I go over to her. "Where's Kinny?" I wrap my arms around her legs.

"She is at work, baby, why?"

"I want someone to come paint with me," I pout up at her.

She takes another bite of her sandwich. "Water color?" I nod. "I'll come paint, baby. Just let me finish this. Are you hungry?" I shake my head. "Okay, give me a few minutes."

I kiss her belly. "Okay, Mommy! I'll go set it up!" I run up to our paint room.

I pass Auntie Leigh's room, hearing her say something. I peak in to see her on the phone. "I know, Kinsley, I'm not fucking stupid, okay? Just do what you have to do and come home."

I walk in. "Can I talk to Kinny?" I smile up at her.

She looks down, shaking her head. "Not right now, Jasper."

I climb onto the bed and lay down. "Is you okay?" I ask her.

"Kin, I have to go.... No, just come home as soon as you can. I love you, baby... I know, Princess. Come home and I'll hold you, okay?.... alright, bye, baby."

"You's have a baby?" I smile.

She nods, sitting next to me. "Yes, Kinny is my baby," she sighs.

"Kinny's not a baby. Baby in Mommy's tummy," I say proudly

"Jasper, go with your mom."

"But–"

"Jasper, come on. Auntie Leigh needs a few minutes alone. She'll come paint with us in a few minutes," Mommy walks in and lifts me up.

"I want–" I stop myself when mom lifts up her eyebrows. I lay my head on her shoulder. "Sorry, momma," I mumble.

She kisses my head as she carries me to the painting room. "It's okay, baby."

Leigh walks down the stairs with a scowl on her face. "What's wrong with you?" I look up at her.

"Nothing," she grumbles.

"Are you sure about that?"

She sits at the island as I peel potatoes. "I feel like Kinsley is getting depressed over this whole baby situation," she whispers. "I can't keep up with her mood swings lately."

I nod, looking down to the garbage underneath me. "Jason too. He's so tired lately," I sigh.

"Same with Kinsley. I just don't know what to do. What did you do when Jason got depressed?"

"Um," I clear my throat to choke back the tears. "I-I stood in the shower with him a lot, or sat in the bath. I held him and let him cry and scream and do what he needed to feel b-better." She walks over to me. I place down the potato and the peeler. Leigh wraps her arms around me tightly. "I'm sorry," I wipe my cheeks free of the silent tears.
