"Seven and three high chairs for McCann," I say to the hostess as I rock a crying Gracie side to side. She nods, saying something to the man beside her before guiding us to the table. "Okay, Grace," I sit her on my lap, facing me. "What's wrong? What's got you worked up?"
"My chest, Mommy," she cries heavily.
I take her hair out of the small ponytail to fix it. "What's wrong with your chest? You need to tell me when things like this happen," I murmur. "Where does it hurt?" She taps where her heart is, wincing when she touches it. "Jace," I look up quickly.
He turns from Jasper. "Yeah?"
"Her heart," I feel tears rush to my eyes. "I have to bring her in."
He grabs my arm. "Baby, give it a few minutes. It might just be a flare up," he says calmingly. "Do you need to go to the doctor?" She shakes her head. "See, Darling? She's alright, she's just nervous around new people."
Everyone is now arrived and gathered around the table. Abel and Jason are chatting as well as Kinsley and Keira. Jasper plays with Jenny and Savannah, Abel's daughter. Gracie keeps her head on my chest as she plays with my necklace.
"Fancy seeing you guys here."
Everyone turns to see Justin standing next to the table with Christina. "What do you want?" Jason mutters.
"Just to say hello. What's she doing?" He points to Grace.
Jason looks over at me. "She had a flare up," he says annoyedly. "Can you please leave now?"
He turns to Kinsley. "What's up, Kin?" He smirks. "How's your sex–"
"That's enough," I cut him off. "When are you going to stop this madness, Justin? Doesn't it get old?"
He shrugs, "every time something starts to get old, a new thing pops up."
"You're sick," I growl.
"Oh, Nezther. I didn't kill both my parents now, did I?"
I grit my teeth, covering Gracie's ears. "I fucking hate you. You're such a fucking dick, do you know that? I hate you," I hand my daughter to my husband and head for the door.
Tears rush down my face as I make it out to the fresh air. I sit on the little bench near the valet podium. "Are you alright, Ma'am?" A young man walks over to me.
I nod, wiping my tears away frustratedly. "Yeah, I'm fine. Thank you," I sniffle.
"Did you get stood up? That seems to always happen here," he frowns, sitting next to me.
I shake my head. "No, I'm actually here with my husband and our family. My ex was in there and he came over and brought up a bad part of my life."
"Nes?" I look up to see Jason and Leigh standing above me. "Are you okay, baby?" My husband takes my hands. He helps me up, pulling me into his arms. "He's such an asshole, I'm sorry our night is ruined."
"Where are the kids?" I tuck my head into his neck.
"They're still at the table."
I sniffle as I look over at Leigh. "He just left, Nessie. Do you want to go back in?"
I nod in reply to her. Jason keeps one of his arms around my waist as we walk back in. Everyone at the table stares at me as I sit down. Our food is in front of us and Kinsley is now holding Grace.
"I'm sorry," I clear my throat.
Abel is the first one to speak up. "Don't be. Let's just enjoy this lovely dinner together," he smiles warmly.
"Momma," Gracie reaches out to me. Kinsley hands her to me. She nuzzles he head against my chest again, grabbing my necklace again. "My's mommy."
Jasper comes over to my side with his plate. "Will you help me?" He places it next to mine.
I nod with a small smile. "Of course, bugga."
I cut up his chicken fingers. "My's too!" Jenny shrieks happily. I giggle as Abel passes me her plate.
After a peaceful while, everyone is done with their food except me. "Do you want a bite?" I offer the small child in my lap. She shakes her head. "You haven't eaten anything," I frown.
"I want a bite," Jason leans over. I place the fork in his mouth and slowly pull it out. He holds eye contact with me, wrapping his lips around it tightly. "Yum," he whispers before placing a kiss on my neck.
I feel my cheeks turn red as Kiera stares at our exchange. Kinsley holds her stomach and stands up quickly. Jasper runs with her, screaming asking her where she's going. I glance over at Leigh with a look of worry.
"I'm so tired of this," she sigh heavily. "She gets so upset about her body rejecting the baby, but she doesn't understand it isn't her fault."
I watch as she stands up. "I'll come with you," I hand Grace to Jason. I follow Leigh to the bathroom. "Kin?" I knock gently.
Jasper opens the door. "She's cryin'," he pouts.
I walk over to the only closed stall. "Kinsley? Come out, sunshine. I know it's hard, but you can come out, no one is going to hurt you."
"It hurts," she says barely audible.
Leigh gets on her knees and crawls under the door. "Oh my god," she gasps. The door flings open to reveal a puddle of blood around my best friend.
"Jasper, go get Daddy," I say as I push him out the door.
