Chapter 22

-Justin-

I woke up to the sound of Hailee getting sick down the hall. I decided not to bother her, and waiting for her to come back. I glanced at the clock on the wall and saw it was already six o'clock. That means we slept for three hours. I heard the toilet flush and the water run, and then the door opened. Hailee came back to the couch.

"You okay?" I asked as she sat down next to me. She leaned on me and wrapped her arms around mine.

"Never been better." She said sarcastically. I laughed.

"Well I'm sorry to hear that." I said. Just then, we heard the front door open. Hailee didn't move and I looked to see who it was .

"Hey guys!" Hailee's mom said.

"Hi mom." Hailee said dully.

"How are you Justin?" She asked walking over to us and sitting on the chair.

"I'm alright. Ad what about you Mrs. Ellis?" I politely replied. I heard Hailee let out a quite giggle. I smiled.

"Oh Justin, call me Kim. But I am doing okay. At least I'm home after all days work!" She answered. "But, how are you feeling Hails?" Hails? Never heard that one before. But I laughed because I asked her that literally a minute ago.

"Mom." She groaned. "I'm not feeling to good."

"Have you taken any medicine?" Her mom asked her.

"No." Was what she replied.

"Okay, well I'll get you some." Her mom got up and left the room. I looked down at her.

"Hails?" I asked and she blushed but giggled.

"It's just something everybody called me since I was a little girl." She replied.

"Ohhh. Well then I'll have to start calling you that." I joked and she smiled her beautiful smile. Even when she was sick and did t gave any makeup on, she still managed to look beautiful. We just sat there staring at each other and then both burst into laughter for no reason.

"What's so funny?" Hailee's mom asked coming back into the living room. She handed Hailee her medicine with a glass of water.

"I have no idea." Hailee managed to answer.

"Teenagers. But anyway, your father is going to be home any minute." Her mom said as Hailee took her medicine and drank down the water. She put the glass on the small table.

"Ah great." Hailee muttered.

"Don't worry. Act like you always do when your sick and he won't tell at you this time." Her mom replied. I had no idea what they were taking about. Why would Hailee get yelled at? And then I remembered her dad didn't approve or us dating. But that was going to change soon.

-Hailee-

I don't know how I would have made it through the day if Justin hadn't come over. He made me feel better, forget I was sick. And then it would all come back when I had to make a run to the bathroom. Dad came home and didn't say one thing to Justin. Not even a hello. I was mad at him. He just went straight to the kitchen like he didn't even notice us at first. Then he came and sat down with mom.

"So, what did you do all day?" He asked.

"What does it look like I did all day? I'm sick." I said.

"I can see that." He spat. Geez, something must have gone wrong today at his work.

"Whatever." I said turning my attention back to Justin. He was half smiling. "What?"

"Nothing." He lied. I smiled and rolled my eyes and rested my head on his arm. I played with the sleeve of his t shirt as we all sat in awkward silence.

"So, you two love bird. Are you guys like.." Dad asked breaking the silence. That's all he had to say for me and Justin to know what he meant. We both had the same shocked expression in our faces.

"Dad really?" I asked.

"Yes really. I want to know." He hissed.

"No, were not like that dad. We have only been dating a few days. What kind of question is that?" I told him.

"The kind of question a dad would ask his daughter and her boyfriend." He replied smartly. I rolled my eyes.

"Wow dad. Real classy." I joked.

"I'm serious Hailee." He snapped. "I don't want my daughter pregnant at eighteen."

"Dad! I'm not going to be pregnant! We aren't even like that! Not once have we even thought about it! Just let it go okay?" I exclaimed. I wonder what it felt like to Justin right now. Very awkward and uncomfortable I'm guessing. He just sat there, not saying anything.
