I bounce up and down, waiting in line at the tattoo parlor while people check into their appointments. Today's the day, my eighteenth birthday. Everyone in the world gets a tattoo on the back of their right hand when they turn eighteen. I can't wait. They bring you to the very back of the parlor, into this special room that has an old man or woman they call a prophet. They read your palms before tattooing what the first words your soulmate are to you on your hand.
I'm the youngest of my two friends, they have both gotten their tattoos already. Their tattoos are so sweet, at least I think they are. My first friend, hers says "I'm sorry to bother you but have you seen my Teddy Bear?" I screamed at her because I thought it was cute because her name is Teddy. Then my other friend, (F/N), has one that says "I'm just gonna tell you this, you're beautiful." and I'm not going to lie, I screamed at her as well. Now it's my turn. I'm so excited.
I finally get up to the front desk and a man that looks to be in his mid-thirties and is covered in tattoos behind it smiles at me, noticing my enthusiasm. "Hello Miss, I'm guessing it's your special birthday today?"
"Yes sir!" I nod with a thrilled smile.
He sets his hands down onto the desk and I look at his right hand. "Hello, lovely rainy weather huh?" is scrawled out onto his hand in beautiful handwriting. "Come with me." He says kindly and walks out from behind the desk, leading me to the back of the parlor.
He moves a curtain out of the way and lets me step in, dropping the curtain so it closes. It cloaks the room in a dark haze. Someone lights a candle behind me and I turn around to see a woman. She sits hunched over in a large pile of comfy blankets. Her long black hair cascades down her back and spreads out on the blankets behind her. Her pale skin glows in the dim candle light.
"Come sit child." She gestures me over and I gladly sit in front of her. She takes my palm in hers and feels it. I look into her eyes and notice they are completely black, the longer I look the more I see in her eyes, stars and galaxies in a wide expanse. She smiles at me. "I can see everything, child. I see the past and I see the future. I see parallel universes as well. In every universe there is a you and there is a me. And in every one, I'm a prophet and you find a soulmate."
"That's amazing Ma'am." I whisper and she smiles wider.
"I know child." She grips onto my hand tighter and brings it up to her eyes, looking it over and flipping it in her hand. "You will have a weird encounter, I see." She reaches up and touches my forehead, her eyes flash my favorite color before returning to it's regular, star-filled look. She pats my cheek gently. She then pulls out her tattoo machine and gets to work on writing on my hand.
It stings but soon I feel nothing. I watch her spell out a short looking sentence in beautiful writing. I admire her as she works. When she's done she holds her hand over it and a slight glow comes from under her hand before she pulls it off. "Thank you Ma'am."
"You're welcome child. Now it won't have any characteristics of a regular tattoo, no swelling and no fading will occur. Now have a nice day." I smile at her and stand up.
"You too!" I step out of the room and head out of the parlor, waving to the guy at the front desk.
I step out onto the sidewalk and look down at my hand. "Sorry, it has a mind of it's own.". I cork a brow. It was odd indeed, I smile at it nonetheless. I go to text my friends when suddenly I hear someone swear and something hits my ankle. I jump at the sudden touch and look up to see a guy sheepishly smiling at me and a powerboard down by my ankle. He has light brown hair and a slightly ginger stubble, his eyes are a baby blue. He's wearing a grey sweatshirt and some black jeans.
"Sorry, it has a mind of it's own." He laughs, my eyes widen. He did not just say that! I'm imagining things. I smile at him, guessing I was just hearing things. I pick up his board and hand it to him.
