*********Ean's POV***********

Serena has been staying home from work--lunch break, since our first sonogram appointment. Being my father's second makes me one of the acting leaders with a lot of responsibility. I've been helping my mother out with the initiates while my father takes on the larger problems in the compound.

I open the door to my apartment and see Serena sitting on the couch eating. I kiss her forehead. "How are you feeling, honey?"

"Fine." She frowns. "I really don't do much all day so it's not like I have anything to complain about other than boredom."

I frown back at her. "We're doing this for the baby."

"You're not doing anything, I am." She shoots me a warning look.

"It's my child too, Serena. I want him to be safe." I sit down next to her.

"Stop that. We don't know the gender." She furrows her eyebrows.

I sigh and pinch the bridge of my nose. "You don't agree that this is best?"

"It's just not fair. You get to do everything you want to and I feel like I'm prisoner to this place."

"Serena...Maybe you can go grocery shopping, or hang out with my mother, or my siblings?"

"I'm not some fragile doll. I can do more than that, Ean. I'm strong and I was the one at your father's side years before you were. I don't like sitting here like some useless, good for nothing lady of the house."

"Then don't stay at the house. But you aren't coming back to work and that's final." I cross my arms.

"Why? I don't even have to do anything strenuous there. I just can't take it here anymore. Wouldn't you rather want me with you?"

"Of course I want you with me, but my job is dangerous and it wouldn't be lax if you came to work. I trust you here in the apartment where nothing can get to you."

"If I'm here alone and something happens then what?"

"I'll post guards outside the door then."

"Why not make this place more of a prison? Right?" She says sarcastically.

"I grew up with guards outside the door of my parent's apartment. It's not a prison, it's protection."

"Your parents aren't us and we aren't them. I can handle myself and this baby and I am not staying in here all day any longer." She puts her hands on her hips.

"Serena," I give her a warning glare. "We are not discussing this anymore."

"Ean, you're acting like a child." She narrows her eyes at me.

"I'm not a child!" My voice raises.

"Could've fooled me Ean, especially with that comment you made the other day at the sonogram." Serena narrows her eyes at me.

"I told you I didn't mean it. I was joking, your hormones just got the best of you."

"Oh yes, please blame my hormones for your stupid, immature kid joke." More sarcasm. She rolls her eyes this time.

"Tomorrow guards will be posted at the door with strict orders not to let you leave," I begin to walk away.

"That's not happening or else I'm leaving you."

My eyes widen. "You can't leave me."

"Try me, Ean."

I rub my forehead. "Serena. Just, you're tired, take a nap and we will discuss this later."
