A few months later it was the trio's initiation. I sit with Eric in the stands as they call their names in reverse alphabetical order.

"Phoenix Coulter." They call his name and with swift confidence he heads down the stairs and shakes hands with the abnegation leader. He cuts his hand and stands over the Dauntless bowl and without any reluctance lets his blood drip.

"Dauntless!" It's announced and we all scream and clap.

Eli sitting next to me looks tense.

"Eloise Coulter."

She smiles and nods at Eric and I before passing Phoenix's empty seat and heading down the steps. She cuts her hand and makes a soft wincing noise. She scans all her options but eventually stops at the Dauntless bowl pouring her blood into the coal.

"Dauntless!" It's announced.

Eric and I shout and clap again. Two down, one to go.

"Eli Coulter." His name is announced. Eli slowly walks down the stairs and stands in front of the five glass bowls. He turns to look over his shoulder before cutting his hand.

He steps in front of the bowls scanning all his options just like Eloise. Candors bowl right next to the Dauntless bowl as I watch his head flick back and forth.

He lifts his hand over the Dauntless bowl. "What is he doing?" I whisper to Eric.

Before Eli's blood falls into the bowl he brings his hand toward him, his blood spilling on the floor. The crowd murmurs at how long he's taking. I grab Eric's hand tighter.

"He's gotta decide soon." Eric raises his chin.

Eli turns his head slightly as if to look at his siblings. His hand goes over the Dauntless bowl one more time, he squeezes his hand and the blood is so close to dripping in, I'm at the edge of my seat.

"Dauntless!" The man shouts.

I look at Eric. "Dauntless," I repeat happily.

"All three coming home, baby!" Eric wraps his arm around my shoulders.

I smile. "We should probably get ready for the new initiates now."

"I wouldn't have been surprised if he'd have picked Candor, to be honest." Eric admits.

"I thought for sure he was going to leave," I gulp.

"We'll have to talk to him about that another time."

I nod my head as Eric and I stand up to ready back at Dauntless.

Eric stands at the roof as I stand below at the net. It's the same routine every year. I hear a joyous scream, all I can see is black. Another Dauntless born is first to jump.

The brown haired boy falls to the net.

"Phoenix," I smile. "First jumper," I say impressed.

"Making my mama proud." He winks.

I help him out of the net and pat him along to Lauren. "Don't go easy on this one," I pat Phoenix hard on the back.

The second jumper is of course my fearless daughter. "If Phoenix did it, I knew I could so do it." She flips her hair over her shoulder.

I smile at her. "That's my girl."

I'm more distracted as more and more jumpers hit the net, none of them being Eli. I count the transfers like always so far, six candor, three Erudite, two amity and one abnegation.

Then Lauren informs me this is the last one. Eli, the last jumper. He looks at me slightly embarrassed. "Don't worry," I say to him. "I was the last jumper too."
