So as you know Peridot freaked out in " Catch and Release". And I wanted to know why.
We've seen gem powered mechanisms throughout the show, for example the temple at the Strawberry Battlefield and Lapis' mirror. But why was Peridot freaking out. So here's the theory:
Peridot knows what happens to a gem in these items... here me out. Peridot is a technician gem from Homeworld. So she builds a lot of technology that is used. We don't know what all happened to gems during the war. There is a chance they were captured like Lapis and was put into items for whatever reason. Lapis was put in a mirror to relay information. But we've also seen gems bubbled in "That will be all" , and they are bubbled rose quartzes in retribution for the one who shattered Pink Diamond millennia ago. So we have gems bubbled for their own protection against their corruption, as punishment for one gem, and gems placed in items like Lapis' Mirror....but why? What is the purpose?It's original purpose.?
When I say original purpose, I mean not what the Crystal Gems are doing. When they poof a gem and bubble it, it is so when they find a cure for their corruption, they can be in one place to heal them all. A quarantine if you will, that way they can't hurt themselves or others accidentally. But what was bubbling and harvesting original purpose...well I already stated it, it was a punishment.
The proof is in "That will be all." There are many Rose Quartzes in bubbles as a punishment for the Rebellion. It's a punishment on the mind and body. The gems that were placed in gem powered items are also being punished. If the theory about Lapis being a spy is true, then her being placed in that mirror was a punishment for incompetence. Because she was discovered, they lost the rebellion. That gem in the Strawberry Battlefield Temple was being punished, possibly for their part in the rebellion. The Cluster, was the worst. The gems were still conscience, somehow, after being shattered and glue together(how I'm not sure). In Peridot's redemption arc, it's mentioned many times. Garnet, while arguing with herself( Ruby and Sapphire internally), in "Keeping It Together", said,"This is punishment for the rebellion" So we can assume that what gem was harvested, were shattered....and used for The Cluster, gem powered items or bubbled and kept prisoner by Homeworld who will probably release them if they are useful in time.
